MOT passed today with zero advisories. That's quite a result considering it was a bit 'crusty' when I got it. Not that I wasn't made aware that there were issues when I bought it, I have to clarify. Typical W210 issues really. A couple of pics at a show at Shildon last Sunday...

If anyone is contemplating this car, I would just say 'Go For It". They won't be this value for long, and are starting to go up now.
I get 400 miles to a tank of fuel in mine with 'mixed' driving, so don't get worried about running costs. They are much more frugal than people expect, and the sound is something to behold.
Awesome car.

Hey, Just seen this. Holy curse word what a beast. So tempted to get one now, but omg fuel I got 400 miles of mixed driving from The only full tank I have put in so far. The partial decat improves mpg as well as bhp. Get one. You'll not be disappointed.

It's a small world. Funnily enough I know exactly where this is and it's the village we're currently looking to buy in. I can't promise it will be enough to keep you in business, but I do eat a lot of cake. Best of luck with your endeavors. Discounts for fellow Retro Riders offered of course!

not knocking it....it was the mass of masking and recycled newspapers that reminded me of the jaaag saga , that's all. No worries matey. Sometimes, after a hard day at work, a post read without any tone of voice or eye contact can be taken in the wrong way. I felt like Derek's work was being slightly denigrated. All's good.

I take on board what you have said about the work the welder has done previously and do hope that he had the bumpers off. I must say though...... I don't really understand why your body man is masking so much very easily removable stuff! Its quicker to take it off than it is to mask it and makes it far easier to paint rather than risking being dry behind door handles and under door mirrors etc. I guess we all have our different ways of working though! I hope you pleased with the finished results and I look forward to seeing it done.I bet you cant wait to get back behind the wheel! :-) does remind me of an "overnight" re-spray I helped a mate do on an xj6 years ago ...wheeled in after work , masked , prepped blown over and wheeled out done the next morning. hope it all turns out well. This is far from an overnight respray.

This is the fourth car Derek has done for me. The results are always fantastic, but on each of them I could have paid more for him to take glass out, bits off etc, but I'm not made of money unfortunately. He's a master at work. He's been doing this for over 50 years, and still gets Jaguar main dealer work among others, even though he works alone now and has no lads working for him. I understand why you're raising the point though.

I'm posting as an AMG convert, I have recently fallen under the spell of the E55 too. I found a cheap car pretty much exactly like yours, but the corrosion was pretty much only exclusive to the front end. In my short period of ownership I knew it was a car for me. So I palmed that rust bucket off on eHell and shelled out for a decent example, and I love it dearly. Late model S210, and I use it and love it daily Best of luck to you mate That looks fantastic.

Ive had quite a few of these over the years and can understand your enthusiasm for the E55. Its great that youre making the effort to preserve it. However, these cars REALLY know how to rust and it creeps out from panel edges and joins due to a number of factors covered elsewhere (including bad quality recycled steel, very poor rust proofing, water based and badly applied seam-sealer etc.). I'm really surprised to see your bodywork guy hasnt removed the bumpers as the rust on the front wings in front of the wheel arches and the rust on the rear part of the rear arches will be coming from areas concealed by the bumpers and will return in those visible areas very quickly if it isnt dealt with thoroughly. Also the side mouldings have only one screw holding each one on - so its worth removing them to check for any rust behind them and the same applies to the tail lights, just a few 8mm nuts. Door handles are also only secured by one allen bolt each! Please don't take these points as criticisms - but Ive done rust repair and paintwork on many, many Mercs of this period over the last few years and you have to be 1000% ruthless and eradicate every tiny trace of corrosion to stand a chance of it not returning surprisingly quickly! Thanks for the info. All advice welcome here. You'll be relieved to know that a lot of the issues you mention we're looked at and treated when it was with the welder. I totally get that I'll have to keep vigilant with it.
