Its alive! and rather feisty as well. Got the rest of the pipework finished tonight after college. Intecooler, down pipe, oil and water lines all sorted out along with the supply for my boost guage. Once all that was done the only thing left to do was start it up with a base map and go from there. After 20 mins driving with the Tuner studio autotune running it was a totally different car. I would recommend anyone with an MX5 sticks a turbo on it! If anyone wants any specific info or copys of maps then just let me know, I'm not secretive with that stuff as i don't see the point Pictures and a short video (There will be a better one this weekend hopefully) James

Cheers guys, the manifold is a custom jobby made from steam pipe and some bits from the old manifold. I should get this finished up tonight! Once fitted I'll wrap it so it looks nice, saves me grinding down the welds and leaving it open to the elements.
I'm just waiting for parts now really. There's some resistors coming from China for the bigger injectors which will apparently take 3-4 weeks to arrive!

Once again its been quite a while since i last updated the thread. I have however, still been working on the car (along with putting a new screen in my laptop so i can write this. Remember to secure your laptop if you have it in your car data-logging and need to stop quickly. They don't like bare metal floors coming at them at speed... ) Anyway, The axle i mentioned in the last post has been fitted and its made a massive improvement to the car. Its quieter, smoother and faster as its a shorter ratio (4.1something iirc) I have also been continuing the exhaust saga, most recently fitting a Cherrybomb in there which has given it a really nice note! Looking good! Not long after that i decided it was time for a new clutch. No biggie, i put the engine in easy enough so it should come out well enough, which, it did... along with some of the passenger floor when i was leaning on it. Doh. There is a leak on the windscreen, which i though was small. It turns out it is actually quite large, but was just draining out through the floor! Anyway, its now got plenty fresh metal in But, as with all project cars, nothing can ever be "finished" and whist reading a 1958 issue of Practical Motorist, i was reminded that... and so, this is now sat on my bench.. along with almost everything else for 220bhp. That's all for now folks. You never know, the next update might have it installed!! James

Have a look for some trials rims. I have one at the moment that is 2" wide but it's also on my bike, other wise I would have sent it your way! Cost about £25 for it brand new iirc!

The hydraulic jack (1st problem) would be the best one for you to do for your HNC. It ticks lots of boxes seeing as there are calculations you can do for the leverage and hydraulics involved along with the research into available ones! It will also be alot cheeper than your 2nd solution so you don't have to worry about funding it along with the actual work making it and writing it up. I'm currently doing my HNC, so I know how awkward it can be sorting out a project!

Hurrah, my bits turned up in the post. So did the bath and the taps, but the car is more important and its sunny outside I had already chopped a coil off the springs to lower it a bit: It was OK, but really wobbly so with the help of some ford capri springs from rally design and some lowering blocks it now looks like this: Not alot of diference, but hell its alot stiffer now! Much much better and handles pretty well now as well (its actually got negative camber on the front not instead of positive!) Here is the comparison between the springs for anyone else wanting to do similar: There's still more work to do, and i think it will allways be like that! James

Its been quite a while since the last update, but I'm pleased to say she's still going strong There has been progress, just little bits here and there, looking for causes of drone, nothing really exciting! First off i made a new exhaust for it. When i did the swap originally, i just mated it up to the stock exhaust. I have since replaced this with a 2" diameter pipe with two straight through silencers. Its nice and quiet, but has a nice fruity tone when you put your foot down One of the best bits is that it looks almost stock! Thats one drone source found, but theres more... The next place to look was the fuel system. Although there wasnt so much of a drone, just a buzzing sound (Ann summers in the boot more like! ) This was cause by the old fuel pump, which is of an unknown age, make and pressure, but worked on my friends Manta before he fitted bike carbs to the Red top installed. To sort this i was very naughty and stole from the V8 capri project and ended up with this in the boot instead: There is still a bit of a buzz but much much quieter But there is still drone. A whine too now the exhaust isn't the only noise whether you liked it or not and its all coming from the rear axle! The rear axle always had a bit of play since i got the car but giving it a much more powerfull engine has almost finished it off. So after a text to the ever so help full Nomad and a drive to the North East upsetting some boyracers and voila, I have a new axle in the boot with a slightly shorter ratio After a quick strip down its in much better condition that the one currently in the car and is almost new with a date of 12 8 74 stamped on the CROWN wheel! In other news it now also sits back at the height it was before removing the hillman engine. With the help of a grinder its much better and handles like it used too (boaty. Better than bargy though!) In the post there some -1" 190lb Capri springs and -1" lowering blocks which should make it even better. Thats all for now. More when my parts come and the summer shut down at work is over with. Looking good man The rocker cover issue is easily sorted. I chopped the top of the cam cover which instantly made my engine look like this : I wish haha On another note, what inserts did you use in your front struts? I need to sort mine out as you get sea sick in it at the moment and following friends think I'm about to take the chrome off the door handles!! James
