Same as the Harris clan being the people that worked out how to make ford engines fly .... that came from years and years of r & d and fettling , testing by a few racers and engine developers/builders . The clan just had a interest in allowing the myth to perpetuate for business . engine builders.. now that's where you had plenty choice but the only name to get a proper built lump was indeed a Ron Harris engine. met him a few times such a nice guy, was genuinely a top guy. shame I didn't have the £ to get an engine built by him. Legend.

Kents not south London though Dan haha I agree the label of the name was not there, it was just the "look" - Harris' were in the lead front with there builds, but there was a lot of underground builds that I have been shown that were simply stunning and would knock many of todays builds to shame in my opinion

Ah, the south London look. its in my blood, I best tell you THIS is the south London look. Most have got it wrong thinking 1/4 bumpers and 7x13 miniltes entitle you to the "title". But its low, smallish tyres(60 profile or 55's if you can find them), neat wheels (revs , steels, proper RS 4 spokes polished , or other styles minilites hit and miss with me its not the true SL look to me personally) clean paint, RS 3 metal spoke steering wheel, full blade front bumper, recaros up front or preferably stock interior (or retrimmed vinyl recaros-best of both). engine wise can be stock, but you will eventually evolve to have some 40's hanging of that pushrod or pinto, geoffe howe exhausts or an Ashley exhaust system once you manipulate them to fit as they never do. Sadly 10 years ago when this renaissance re kicked off of this look, I saw a fair few kicking around here and there, the prices have shot right up and you rarely see a south London old ford floating about in well... south London. Its a shame, But I plan to bring a few proper old south London fords out together this year Just my 2 pence worth of knowledge, if you don't like it well, tough. have a few photos I have saved from a few years of interweb findings of people who have got it right!(none are ours but I will try to scan some in soon i'd like to add) 11403457_10152862072657047_7055156932041597886_n by 13654391_1215594658474204_3045981664869040558_n by 17799364_10155227572337386_900775843177292771_n by (shame about the 1/4 bumps on this but it's a cute mk1 still.) 22815162_1260060307472520_6916828343385471104_n by and of course .. can't forget the Escort this one has certainly got the look damn right. 13346507_686416688180207_8860518732609325419_n by

they are 17x8.5 and 17x9.5 . cant remember the tyre sizes right now. but it wasn't straight forward to just 'bolt them on' if it was that easy many people would of done it. But was worth the effort I think anyway

bit of a little update. thought the heat wasn't coming through the heaters. knew I bled it properly, but did not see the pollen filter... problem solved. 37981C7D-C901-4CBC-8025-7A3DB4594E04 by , on Flickr 82898E23-94E0-42CE-B2F5-D177101C5701 by , on Flickr had a clean up of a parts drawer indoors, and found a mooneyes genuine freshener! plonked that on F596DB0B-528F-4447-9147-A75756B9841B by , on Flickr then onto little things, the foam in between the handles and doors were all destroyed. already bought cheap taiwaiin gaskets on a chance.. but they were true turd, so bit the bullet and bought all 4 complete with handle outers from BMW. its the little things I suppose? 356F11D7-EEC4-4AF6-B7DE-168FCF96CEB5 by , on Flickr 74DC44BA-3DCA-4A7F-822A-40E2DF7F5C36 by , on Flickr 49E21700-42DE-482B-8D44-4CCD1C11611D by , on Flickr and an arty shot while I was picking up said items . still got lots of little things to do next. new numberplates, rear light led bulb units, need to buy a proper rear window wiper delete. silly little things but that's all I can do to this for now

need to finish my mk1 Cortina off and make sure the engine is reliable . didn't drive it properly once this year due to mechanical issues.
I also need to bin the negativity around it, and certain people from my life who say 'you cant do it and it wont ever be done' as that really got me down about it all. might do a thread on here to keep the mojo going .
if I just get that done, realistically I would be happy. fingers crossed

Thanks for the kind words. will be using it throughout winter to build my old fords, and go on parts runs hopefully.
I used to have a genuine 323i sport touring in silver. was lovely but was very rotton on the sills, so I didn't go any further sadly . in hindsight I should of just welded them up and kept it as it turned into ..yes.. a 'drift car' and was ruined. shame.
