Honda s-mx mini project I say project, because she requires the bottom bodywork tidying up, and that's pretty much it This is the LowDown model, which is the one to have. Deep bumpers, lowered suspension, Orange interior, what more do you need? Engine is nice, crisp and strong. Gearbox is standard s-mx auto, flares the gearchange on occasion between 2-3rd, would benefit a lot from a fluid change. 200k on the clock, though 120 of them were in km, so 150k miles give or take She will be on the standard alloys which have excellent, pretty much new tyres There's a double din headunit that plays video, if that's your thing I was planning on spraying the bottom half to the swage in a slightly darker grey, I did a quick photoshop to give you an idea. So there you go, a cheap s-mx. As mentioned, she's on the standard wheels, the 17s can be had for £100 £700

I use a fair few of them I'm loving the smaller 3/8 ones, I only reach for the big one when a Transit or similar rolls in Can be used for 90% of the nuts you encounter.

I think I should get that to tow my acty. You'd be better to tow it with the Acty, what with it being about as road legal as a; err, well, a Rascal with a jag axle, a random v8 and 970cc on the V5...

That's me mate. I tell him, he doesnt listen! Can't tell you the amount of times i've had to wheel him to a&e to get steel removed from his eyes. It wasn't long ago he was using a da sander (9inch type) and it got caught in his hoodie tassles, which immediatly dragged it into his face which knocked him and his front teeth out! Does he remove the tassles on subsequent hoodies though? I'll answer that. No! I have triumphed on keeping the guard on grinders now though - baby steps

I grabbed a spare front subframe and started making a jig Front brace added, nice bit of 80x40 box. This is the forward limit I can extend to, this is actually worse in the Scamp than in the Mini, so I hope I don't run into any problems. You can see i've located the tie rods, important geometry stuff right there or something. A square frame was made next, added some castors as well to make life easier in the future. Towers were braced across the top, bit of angle with holes drilled through, simple stuff Uprights made, these are bolt on to the frame so the subframe can actually be removed. They also tie into the upper suspension mount just to really make sure the she's not going anywhere Be rude not to cut the subframe in half, just to make sure nothing moves. It didn't! The subframe will be cut right back to the towers as this is the only bit Ii'm using. Then I can make the frame work around the engine when I remove it from the Micra.

With all the improvements you are making to the unit, is the owner compensating you for any of this? You're putting decent money into it and I assume it will be a more valuable space as a result of it being in so much better nick now. With the unit I use, you can pretty much do as you please, mezzanine, office, lift etc, but you have to return it back to how it was when you got it else they'll charge you for 'disposal'

The 1.3 is costly and hard to get hold of though.

What an awesome thread. I don’t know if it’s much help but I’ve also built a Micra powered mini, along with a few other 16v minis. I used the 1.0 engine, iirc I have a dyno print out for 90bhp odd which used to go great. Used to love the motorway and long distances yet was still great fun to throw around. Cheers mate Ooooh, I might pick your brains over things and stuffs Did you build your own subframe? Also, 90bhp - What did you do?

Although, they do say that 140bhp in a mini equates to a 6 second 0-60
And this is lighter...

The RAL chart is really good for picking colours
Plus they all seem available in matt, satin and high gloss.
I think the cage and the wheel in high gloss orange and the body in satin grey

There are hundreds of 1.0 cars knocking about, there's 3 in the yard currently I worry that loads of power will ruin what she is, then again the 80 odd the 1.3 puts out isnt earth shattering is it. If one came up i'd take it The current 998 is quoted to have 38bhp, but that was 38 years ago. The 998 Micra is 59bhp, maybe 63ish without the cat. They redline at 7300 as well and havee 5 gears. It would make her a hell of a lot more useable

It's wheel day! First lets take a look at them Old wheels are 12x5 et16, new ones are 13x7 et0 Willtheyfit.com informs me the overall diameter is 31ish mm less, giving me a nice 15mm ride height drop. The front end was fitted with an inch spacer and longer studs. i've binned this and replaced the studs with normal ones to bring the wheels further in at the front. I still get 19mm more poke. Check the difference between the 2. Much better, covers the brakes and fills the void And both fitted The rear already had a 10mm spacer fitted, this is actually wider than i need, but I cant take it off as the wheels foul the shock. Luckily post '84 Minis had rear drums with a 5mm spacer built in, summat to do with the change to 12inch wheel I guess. I'll order a pair and when they're fitted it will pull the wheel in so the rear can be dropped. Lets take a look how she sits Looking good if I do say so myself. I think the rear will be able to come down 1.5 inches and the front a bit more, slightly nose down I reckon. She'll never be on the floor, designed for off roading for some reason. The white has highlighted just how cream Ford Diamond White actually is. So I think she'll get resprayed in the future. I'm also toying with painting the wheels the same orange of the cage, thoughts? I'll leave you with the money shot, love how wide she looks at the back now.

This is nuts first time I have seen the thread - really like what you have done Cheers mate. It was a huge rush to get her to RRG19 I now have to go through, doing everything better and doing the things i'd have liked to do first time round.
