Mmm, tasty breadies! I still regret not picking one up years ago, but if I had it would probably be un a ditch somewhere.
What's involved in the MK3 front end swap, do the front wings and bumper just bolt on, or is ther emore involved?

To swap the front ends around, you need to remove the front valance on the Mk2 to get the Mk2f/3 metalwork to fit. The bonnets are different too so to do it right you need to get wings, bonnet, bumper, lights and grille. The rear end is easier since, as far as I'm aware, the bodyshell wasn't modified in the same way so you can pretty much bolt the tailgate, lights and bumper straight on.
With how easy Mk2f/3s are to get hold of compared to Mk2s, you're probably better off just getting a 2f/3
Oh, and '2f' refers to Mk2 Facelift, they're technically not the Mk3 which is when VW introduced an entirely new bodyshell, but usually people refer to the Mk2f as a Mk3 anyway. It all gets very confusing.

polojoe: So that's what banded steels will look like... definitely doing that when I can afford it now I've seen that one. Didnt post any banded steels?! The silver mk3 is just on G60 winters, and the beige mk2 G40 is just on GT steels (5.5j) with chunky semi slick tyres!! (185 60's i think but don't hold me to that!) I may have just saved you a few hundred quid matey!!! Joe

@ Volksangyl - GT steelies like the ones shown on my old mk3 GT (coupe) here. I ran beauty trims off a mk1 polo on them here, which looks great in my opinion!

polojoe: Those look just about exactly like how I imagined banded Mk2 steels would. How surprising. Whenever I've been shown 'GT steels' before it's been the Golf ones with lots of circular holes, not those, which would explain why I've always dismissed them as unsuitable for what I wanted. That's my new thing learned for today

Oh, and '2f' refers to Mk2 Facelift, they're technically not the Mk3 which is when VW introduced an entirely new bodyshell, but usually people refer to the Mk2f as a Mk3 anyway. It all gets very confusing. I personally hate it when people call it the 2F. Its a mk3. Go into any dealer and they will know what a mk3 is. It came after the mk2. Its like calling a new astra a mk6 or whatever F Just because the rear windows look the same... Not to mention the numerous differences in the mk3 from the mk2. take for example the rear end.... The rear lights.... The piece under them? Alot wider to compensate for the width of the light... The whole shell is full of small changes like that I know vw's MK'ing system called it 2f or somthing stupid. But it doenst mean mk2/f Its just the breakdown of the model number. The type 2 vw is a van.

This is simply perfection in my eyes, just looks so right. So much work has gone into getting it to sit like that, looks hard as nails. Any idea what the wheels are?
