I shudder when I see those comments in for sale ads. I know it means "but neglected and left to rot for last few years". Kinda applies to my poor Buick. Got the old girl out today after FUCEM as aprt of a tidy up of the garage and thoughts of putting up some more shelves etc. You know how you remember a car as being better than it really is. Yeah, thats me. Or rather, the car wasn't this bad last time I looked at it properly. And its been parked mostly in a nice dry garage. Guys, don;t neglect your rides. Mines gone from patina to junk and I'm the one responsible for that. I've made a pile more work for myself. Or possibly pushed the car beyond what I can reasonable expect to be able to complete now. Its not that bad. But its bad enough LOL. On the other hand she runs sweet as a nut, drives great. Well, she should I made the mistake of doing all the mechanical stuff and leaving the body as "patina" thinking it looked cool that way. Tish and pish. Thats a towel, not a white flag... My neighbours love me. My wife was out.

bit of weld on those holes, then wirebrush and rustkiller/waxoyl throughout. i do every car i own in the first week i own it. full on scrub-off and grease/waxoyl session to keep them smart. then regular preventitive washing and re-touching.
btw, get a ticket on it and i'll swap you for my dodge. awesome car this!

I've had a car that went into the garage fine, and then came out six years later an absolute wreck. It came out with intention of getting back on the road, but it's now gone back into another garage. That Buick looks brutal. What's that little tiny car thing?

Alistair, like most things, it is save-able. It just depends how much you want to save it. I'm at 3 cars at the moment and find it hard to keep on top of it, i have no idea how you can manage 5!
Good luck with it though! I hope you do decide to repair as its a cracking big car!

I have to wonder how my S12 has faired after 18 months in a drafty council lock-up. It failed the MOT on a few odds and sods but not so much as an advisory on the body, and that was from a strict 'testing workbuddy.....

I know what you mean Alistair. My Mercedes is looking pretty forlorn and mossy after 2 years of neglect. Where there's a welder there's a way though! It'll all come right. Get the barbie fired up and press the Notts RR chapter into action. We'll have it looking better in no time!

My dad used to repair write-off's always bought with the assumption "it must have been running when it crashed"....well the only way the 240D merc we had with the petrol auto box could have been running is down hill into a wall the ratios were so far out it wouldn't even change out of 1st gear....

yeah, she's not Podder Fodder nor ready for the dirt oval just yet. It just depressing if I'd dealt with the minor rust when it was just minor I wouldn't be looking at an eye-wrecking weldathon to sort it.
problem is a whole load of it is seams. I hate when seams get infected. devil's own job to deal with. otherwise its two sections of boot floor, maybe a foot strip either side and some tidying elsewise, the rear section of the trunk seal channel and some metal to go in on door bottoms, arches and such. That is quite possibly the tip of the iceberg lettuce.
i reckon if I added it up I'd have like ÂŁ4K in the mechanical bits. Maybe more. I dunno. I'm not adding it up. And it looks like a rot box.

I reckon my life would improve with a new bootlid for it. I would achieve a state of transendental zen.
I have a set of nice slots and new white walls waiting to go on this.

How many cars need attention before you can focus properly on this?

3?
Cadillac needs the service finishing and a few minor tweaks. Trans Am needs a service, TPS checkign out, EGR checking out, prop swap, heater connecting, some electrical gremlins... The Fury is a quicker project to get to "on the road" status as it only needs a floor pan and paint really.
The Austin J40 (the "tiny car") is for my daughter and I need to finish that as well.
Oh well, unemployed at the end of the month, plenty of time to do it all then...
