Last summer I got myself another project . . a 1975 BMW 518 E12 (the only 5-series model with a choke ever ;D ) . . . which was sitting behind a house since 1992(!!) . . it was on four flat tires from the 80s, so I put a set of 70s 14x7 BBS on there which were lying around at my shop . . I think they could already be the final wheel option for it . . I love the "weathered" paint (which will stay exactly like that . .). . the cheap (only 518s had this fabric) nice tan interior . . pretty much everything about it . . and the gold BBS look the tits on there . . I think . . they could use a bit of polish though . . there are a few very badly done rust repairs in the engine bay and the rear shock mounts . . but the body itself is in surprisingly good condition, no sign of real rust on the outside . . so no need to destroy the original paint . . looks like it's 95% untouched . . YAY!! . . the stock engine is done . . but a 1.8l M10 out of a E30 318i is already modified to fit and is waiting to be installed . . . that's a enormous 105 instead of 90bhp . . hope it can handle the power ;D . . lot's of stuff t do . . but I love it!

oh! . . looks like I didn't make that clear . . I will leave the body exactly like it is . . love it that way . . . the polishing will only affect the wheels . . . lowering will happen for sure . . . but there's lots of stuff to do before that . .

Do they allow such tatty paintwork in Switzerland? (I deduce that is where you're at, from the Swiss army penknife and ZH (Zurich) numberplate). I thought everything had to be squeaky clean and well oiled like a Swiss watch out there

This is immensely cool! Although the wheels fit the look i think they're a bit on the small side. You can go really low with them though I have a e28 project myself sitting around feeling sorry for itself. I promise to get it running when it has the same patina as that one ;D

I thought everything had to be squeaky clean and well oiled like a Swiss watch out there Well I'm sure they're not impressed at the Swiss MFK (like MOT) . . but there's not much they can do as long as everything else is ok . . . This is immensely cool! Although the wheels fit the look I think they're a bit on the small side. You can go really low with them though I fitted 185/60R14 Tires on em because I had a set lying around . . which for a E12 is pretty wrong ;D . . . but I actually like the look and I really don't want something bigger than 14's on there . . so it might stay that way . . it needs to come closer to the ground though . . . but that's something I worry about later . .

The more I look at this car, the more I like it. I reckon the 14's look just right and once it's been dropped a few inches they'll look even better. Any interior pics please?

Love it, it has a lowrider vibe going on with the rims. Needs bringing down a touch, but it looks ace

So when new was that colour the mettalic browny gold they came in? it's "siena brown metallic" . . or at least that's what it was in 1975 . .

[/img] This caught my eye last summer cause of the satin deep red paint. I think the sun had got to it when it was gloss. Looked fantastic.
