There was a sheddy looking black one on the Bay recently too. Went for about £10k. So near yet so far. Perfection would be this ride height, but without the naff colour coding and skirts. Just lows + splitter and maybe a bit of width would be astounding. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

How about a red one - ![](http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd36/chevazon/zehyrhills%202011/100_2100.jpg) That looks really good! I'd definitely be tempted by a painted one!

AFAIK no gold ones were made. Like the black ones and the red ones they would be repainted ones. The red one seen on eBay in the UK is painted red because it got all the panels dinged and it was too much of a job to straighten it, so it was filler and paint like a normal car repair. So I am told. american express had planned to have 100 deloreans made that were 24 karat gold plated to be sold on to their gold card members - 2 of these 24karat gold plated delor's were sold and 1 curently sits in a museum ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

I guess the survival rate of deloreans must be quite high because they don't appear to rust and they aren't particularly fast?! Iirc they were Renault engined... Delorean shell, gold plated, v8 dropped under the lid. Now there's a prime candidate for a conversion if ever I did see one.

question is - as one of only 6500 out of the 9000 left, are they worth modding or leaving standard. cant deny that some deep 18s or 20s wouldnt look good sat in those arches and if they are renault engineered I'm suprised they're still going. No offebnce to renault owners but i hate renault, not once had one that hasnt self drstructed or had something major go wrong with it. i wonder how big a lump you could fit back there
be interetsting to see what could be done all the while keeping hold of all the stock parts to return to original spec when your done. did anybody look at that link to the site showing you how to build the internal and external components of the time machine? - somebody should build them and stick them on something like a bentley - just for the WTF looks on people faces. or something really sheddy that would never reach 88mph in the first place

I love the idea of a BTTF replica car, however it is cack when they start the pathetic French V6 they came with. First port of call for me would be to fit a big chugging V8!

It's actually the Volvo version of the V6. Some differences and a higher BHP.
The gold ones were.an after market job by Amex then.
6500 is not rare.
High survival rate is due to collectable status. No other reason

The DMC owners club turned up at the first RR show at Mallory Park. ![](http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc190/stevearchive/Retro%20Rides%20Show%202007/RR07show155.jpg) In a similar vain to the other Supercar threads this week, I've had a ride in one at Haynes (I think I'm driven or been driven in about half the museums collection in the past) it was hot, woefully underpowered and the gullwing door couldn't hold its self up and smacked me on the head. It was definitely a case of never meet your heroes that day

Is it wrong to prefer the painted ones ? I certainly do, even if it is to cover up wag

not a fan of painted, i would put the alpine turbo engine in it, and fix the niggly stuff like underpowered gas rams in the doors ;P stock outside but make the car more pleasant to drive ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

the gas struts for the doors arent underpowered, they just wear out and people don't replace them. the doors open on a torsion bar and the strut just holds it open at the longest point.
