Yes, the 911's a sports car really, but I reckon the 2.7 RS elevated it to supercar territory. So here it is for Retro Rides Supercar Week! Sub-1000kg, 210bhp, 0-60mph in 5.5s, 153mph. That'll do nicely. ...and here's another one!

Yum!!! There's something very special about the early (low bumper) 911s. A wonderful design purity that works equally well on both the chrome trimmed narrow arch versions or the wide arch black detail ones.

Such gorgeous cars, I remember a freind of friends father when i was in 6th form took me out in his, flat out at down little B roads round berkhampstead, clocking well over the ton down roads barely wider than the car, with that manic flat 6 blaring away right behind your head...
I'll never forget it, put that car on my 'must have list' in one fell swoop...

Really, what's not to like about that car? Porsche recently tried to recapture some of this in their 997 sports classic but I think it's a bit of misguided marketing trying to pay homage to one of their all time classics.

1972 (-ish). The peak of 911 styling. This is the best looking the 911 has ever been.

I love the 911 2.7 RS oh so much. It's had a confirmed spot as my #1 most wanted 'lotto win' car for years. ;D

Last summer, driving into London on the M3, I noticed a white 2.7 RS in the rear view mirror. I let it get alongside and we both floored it for the next mile or so. 2 80's performance cars with the road to ourselves briefly. I know the 911 is the faster car but it was an great few minutes ''spirited driving'' and I got to see and hear an expensive and rare 911 getting ragged as it should be! I love these cars. Awesome. Paul Stewart build some excellent track focussed 911's too. Bit out of my price range though.

I'm not too keen on the ducktail thing, but I do love those 911's of that era. Could you get a 2.7 in non RS form? Where they aircooled?

I can;t believe I missed this thread.... Have a lovely 2.7 RS. Let us not forget the frankly beautiful ST though... my personal favourite of all the vintage 911s... slightly subtler flares, no ducktail and generally, just fapping beautiful!

Porsche 924 - gone Citroen Saxo VTR - not very retro but I loved it - now gone... MK4 Golf GTi 1.8T - gone but hardly remembered... Mini Cooper S R53 - gone BMW 125d Coupe - gone (mostly sideways)
Ford Focus RS Mk1 - hello low MPGs and "wanna race me" at every set of lights... 1973 BMW 2002 - Twin 40's, 284 Cam, Revolutions, E21 Recaros + more Porsche Cayman 987 3.4S - here and due to cost me more money than I have

Here's one I saw in west Oxfordshire a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly, the driveway had another couple of Porsches on it along with a Bentley Conti GT and an M5 touring.
