Still here with me guys, the mk1 is giving me a bit of grief with a huge flat spot between 3 and 4k revs which I put down to a suspected metering unit. The engine should be coming out soon for all new gaskets and seals and a coat of paint, will tidy up the under bonnet too while the engine is out.
Very limited on time as usual so it will continue to be slow progress

Early signs of head gasket failure means that my poorly little vw now looks like this Engine and bay will get a freshen up to make pretty again

So, after taking the engine out 5 and a half years ago I thought it would make sense to get this thing back in one piece. A mate of mine has rebuilt the engine for me so I just need to get busy with the spanners. Be back on the road in the next couple of weeks

I sold on the ones that I had from you as they would have stuck out of the arches too much once adaptors were in the mix. I did manage to find a set in 4x100, then another set for the centres and have had them powdercoated ready for tyres.

Cheers all. Put the bonnet back on yesterday, when I started taking it apart the bonnet was the first thing I removed so its nice to see it looking relatively finished

There we go, I'm having an issue with the oil pressure dropping lower than I'm happy with once it's up to temp so once I've got that sorted its usable, carbon roof skin and nice new paint on the cards a bit further down the line but I'm just going to enjoy it for a few years first.

Low oil pressure when warm was down to a worn crank (typically the only think that wasnt removed during the engine rebuild) so a regrind and more new shells later and its as good as gold. I've picked up a carbon roof now too. The next job is to change the suspension as these spax ones are too firm, I do t want it any lower but I'd like to keep my fillings

Things have been very quiet on the mk1 front as I've been mega busy on the house, new plumbing, electrics, plastering, carpentry, kitchen, an extension and porch later to keep Mrs mk1 happy but I'm nearly done, i should be back to tinkering with the car again soon. I have bought myself a pair of these cobra seats for a bit of a bargain that will get re-trimmed with the red stripe cloth so they don't look too out of place New suspension is getting ordered in the next couple of weeks too. First job though is to remove the aftermarket fuel tank and fit the very good genuine one i picked up a while ago, that'll fix the fuel starvation when cornering issue.

These recently arrived, should be more comfy than the super harsh suspension currently fitted
