Any clutch or prop related work on a DAF means engine out. B body front panel, bonnet and tiebars need to be removed to do that. I challenge anyone to not swear when trying to refit them bonnets on their own!! Changing the cross resonating silencer on my 44 is an ![](http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/underwire/2009/11/fox_60.jpg) of a job!! Theres not enough clearance for a socket, a spanner needs to be at a stupid angle and the worst part is getting to the nut on the other end is just as bad

MR2 turbo alternator change. Comes off fine, never leaves the engine bay.
Vectra V6 spark plugs. Easy to see, impossible to access.

One I`m doing at the mo. Cylinder head studs on a TR7. 5 bolts (which all come out easy), then 5 studs. All the nuts came off easily, leaving the studs still in place. 2 studs out eventually, 3 still in, one of which is now snapped off level with the head. They are corroded into the block and the head. I started it end of last year. Just take me a few hours thought I. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Why they didn`t use 10 bolts is beyond me.

Marina van clutch slave cylinder replacement. If I met the bloke who designed that he'd get a dig in the chops.

Exhaust manifold on a BX 16v. Because of the 16v head, the manifold is tight up against the bulkhead. There isn't enough room to remove the studs (assuming you can find 27 UJs to fit to the socket to get it undone in the first place).

Taking the engine out of a beetle! 4 bolts!!!! Ones a little bit tricky to get too! Can take up to 20 mins to take the engine out on one of them!!!! Ruddy German design!
;D (sorry)

340s aren't bad. The gearbox/diff unit at the rear weighs about 50 kilos though and has to be lifted as one object. Too much for stringy people like me!

on my old fiat stilo changing a bulb was either a matter of taking out the battery tray, fuse box, washer bottle and airbox or taking the front end off. i opted for the front end.

Rear spheres on self levelling mercs.... Easier to cut the pipes and fit new ones but even then barely enough room to turn the spanner or get your fingers in to start the thread off.

IIRC Dolly 1850 heads stick to the blocks too ? Yup. This is why I bought a replacement engine rather than fight with my cylinder head anymore, after 5 hours fighting, I gave up... Still have the broken engine though under a sheet. One day...

changing the front UCA on my passat
instead of having the bolt so it can be removed without taking the whole strut out, they have put it in the other way so you have to remove the whole shock, and the sizes are 16mm and 18mm bolts which i don't have many tools that size,
so after removing loads of bolts etc i had to put it all back together and wait until tomorrow, curse word!

the clock in an avantime is horrific,
the one in my mums has gone and we went about finding out how to replace it and after looking in the manual it says to remove the dash.
look up how to remove the dash and it needs the front end removing then parallel bars bolted to the body as it needs removing at a steady and uniform 15degrees up from level.
needless to say you could never tell the time in that car.

Coming from working on 70's Mazdas where nearly everything was nice and easy to get to...
THREE DAYS to change the rubber engine mounts on a Rover P6b with Australian spec aircon.
There's no way I'm even touching the rear inboard brakes...

I can add removing an Alfa 156 gearbox to the list. On my own on the drive it was a 4-day nightmare. 3 months on the scars have nearly healed and the fingernail I surgically removed has almost grown back.
The guy who runs my local garage was telling me that they attempted a clutch slave swap on a Renault Espace. This requires removal of the dash. After several hours they had a massive pile of self-tappers but no other obvious further progress. They subbed the job out at that point.
