As some of you will know, Ive been looking for a new daily since the unfortunate overheating issue on the K10. I was getting to the point of being pretty sick of car-shopping. £500 gets you alot of choice of tat and after going and seeing M'coli's Saab, a few ropey Mondeos (Capable cars, even if they are pretty boring) and some other stuff (mk3 Golf Gti's, MX5) Ive finally picked up the new whip yesterday. So, I present my 3rdGen '89 Honda Prelude 2.0ex Manual. The only pics Ive got are from the for sale advert. I'll get some more at some point. Theres a couple of marks, a little crease in the wing and a dint in the n/s door. Oh, and a blowing exhaust downpipe but nothing too scary. Its solid as hell, drives lovely and popup lights rock... Not sure about the wheels though So, first and foremost, it needs a bit of polish on it and the towbar ripping off.

Do you need any parts? I've got one of these which I'll be scrapping very soon.
By the way these are great cars, I'd love to keep mine but it's just too rusty. Is this the 150bhp version?

Looks well smart. £500 budget you say? Seems like a great choice considering the alternatives you mentioned. Chris

It doesn't feel like 150bhp. Its a 2.0 12v lump. I can't think of anything I need for it, although, I only picked it up yesterday so give me a week to get used to it...

I think the 12v is about 105bhp or so, my old scrapper has the 2.0 16v 150bhp engine, I think it's a B20a. less than 80k too. Fancy an engine swap? ;D

Erm..... this isn't really supposed to be a project, and looking under the bonnet, I'd not even know where to begin, its all pipes and wires... Its feels nippy enough as is. How long have you had yours? Is there anything I should be looking out for? Where do they rot?

How long have you had yours? Is there anything I should be looking out for? Where do they rot? Mine has rusted very badly at the rear of the sills and where the rear wheelarches meet the bumper, also rear suspension pick-up points. only had mine 5 months but I knew it had problems and I only intended to keep it till the MOT runs out. (next month). Mine has been faultless mechanically, even the 4WS is fine. only problem I've had is the rear shocks have gone and all the the bushings are very tired and sloppy. It has leccy windows, sunroof, mirrors, aeriel, c/l etc and everything still works. really sad to see it go but the tin worm has been very cruel. Anyway, if you do find that you need anything let me know. Hope you enjoy driving yours as much as I have.

Skinley - Do you know if the rads are shared across the engine range? I had a little look last night and mine looks a little ropey around the bottom... The plan as it stands is: -Whip the towbar off as its destroying the look of the car from the rear. -Exhaust is on order. The flexi pipe has gone so it sounds awful at the moment. -Both anti-rollbar links at the front. They click over potholes. -Take it for an MOT next month, its not due until July, but I'll feel better with a clean bill of health. Other than that I'm just going to be using it, whilst keeping an eye out for some pretty wheels...

LOL, how do these take to spring chopage?
I was looking at trying to find some coilovers once its reMOT'd, but then I could really do with either the wheels refurbing or a change.
I'll pop down to either your work, over to yours at some point...

Coilovers look expensive for complete units. From looking on t'web people are just using those slide on coilover sleeves. When I see you i'll have a look might be able to make something fit.

Cheers Hirst, strangely, I thought you might like it. Is it obscure enough for your website?
Those wheels are awful, in a good way. I think I'll have a proper look at the wheels that are on it at the moment. I think they're Honda rims, so maybe a rub back and repaint are in order....

The springs on these are perfect for a good chopping, I took 3 coils out of Foxys, it brought it down nicely, they have a load of coils in them.. but you'll need to fit drop straps or the springs come loose when jacked up. It drives absolutely perfect too, no banging and rides really well edit, this is 3 coils

How much suspension is left? Would it take a 4 coil drop?
