Hi, feel free to shoot me down in flames, I may have misjudged this.
I know retroriders has been set up to cater for those of us with a penchant for two wheeled retro motors, but if our interests span a number of different modes of transport would it be such a bad idea to have a bikes section on here? After all they are rides, and they may be retro. It sounds like it could be on par with 'Other modifications', and would save lazy people like me having to navigate to a whole otherboard to see bikes.

This is why we have the 'other modifications' section

I know I know, fair point. I did acknowledge that there's 'other modifications', but Some people would agree that bikes are important enough to warrant their own little section. The only problem with retro-riders is that folk are slow on the uptake when it comes to signing up to a dedicated new forum, whereas people with a passing/moderate interest interest in bikes would happily contribute to a bike section on here.
Thanks for the input.

I think the whole bike thing has gone too far. It's "other modifications" not "your barely modfied, almost retro bike" There's almost nothing else on the front page! Damn, now i sound like a shouting angry man again.
Wasn't there a retro bikes forum made?

Okay to answer a couple of questions :
Motorbikes : I'm not really interested in motorbikes and have no interest in running a forum about them. It is why I don't do it. Lots of people here are interested in music and would surely love somewhere within RR to talk about that, but they ain't getting it, this is a modified old car forum, that is it's job. Do one thing well...
Which brings us onto Readers Other Mods... This stuff isn't old car related and I umm'd and ahh'd about it before doing the section, but I noticed a lot of othere 'stuff' getting built in garages along side cars, and a lot of creative stuff being done with things made of metal and gears and such... so I opened up the section as an experiment to see what would happen with it. It seems to have gone really well and has it's own personality. There are A LOT of bicycle related threads in there at the moment, but I guess that is because they are the most easily accessed 'other mod'?
I'm sure someone set up a retro motorbike forum but I forgot its name, if someone knows can you post it here and I'll make sure there is a perminant link to it around the place somewhere.

Thanks for your reply, there is a retro bikes proboard: retrobikes.proboards.comIt's quiet at the moment, not really taken off yet. I guess I'll just look at the odd motorbike that pops up on other mods. Thanks again

We started RR with 6 people 6 or 7 years ago, just steadily grew the user base. We had these really simple blank and white flyers printed up that we would spread to people with cool cars at shows. That sort of thing is a great way to gradually improve membership numbers, so that is worth thinking about for the retro bike's folk.

There is a vintage Japanese bike club which caters for retro bikes. There is also the Vintage Motorcycle Club has a rolling 25 year eligibility rule. You'd be surprised by the age and variety of both machines and owners in these clubs.
