I've been meaning to take a couple of pics of these: Bedford HA van.... in everyday use by the maintanence department! Absolutely mint condition. Also, a Citroen 2CV dumped here last year! It's still there! I'm looking into who owns it to try and let me have it Enjoy!

HA vans rock the proverbial fat one. Shame they probably have even less power than a 2CV!

Well.... it manages to lug a maintenance guy of around 25 stone (I would say), 2 ladders up the huuuuuge hill when it is full of paint!

2cv FTW. Really easy to lower so slamm it and pimp around.

Just get in contact with the DVLA and request the logbook for the 2cv. If nobody contests it (and its been there for a year so that doesn't seem likely) its yours. At least thats what I think you have to do, I'm sure someone else on here will be able to tell you.

A couple of mates have acquired cars by applying for the V5 that way. One was left in a storage unit and the guy never paid his rent so the site owner gave it to my mate in lieu of the rent the guy owed him so no real comeback as he owed like £1500 in rent over 5-6 years and the car was a Morris Oxford worth about £400 at the time. The other was a Wolesley 18/85 left abandonned on an airstrip. The HA vans are great. Theres a restrictor plate fitted to it if it was Gasboard or British Telecom which prevents the throttle fully opening so thatts the first thing to remove. They use the same engine as the Viva and Chevette. early ones are 1057cc, then 1159 then 1256cc. The 1057 is actually the nicest of the engines to drive as its quite short stroke and pretty lively although its down a few lbs of torque on the long stroke 1256. 1256 is best for load lugging, 1057 is best for thrashing. Miles better than a Morris Minor or A35 van, but not as cute or characterful. There was a local florist who had one and it was mint. Not seen it in about 2 years though, I think it was sold on. Where I used to live there was an ice cream van based on a HA van. Wicked stuff.

However, fill in a V20 and for your £20 you get a logbook for it and the address of the keeper. You can write to that address registered mail and if no reply claim it as yours.

I've found out that it might belong to the owner of the sports centre, I will have to go and have a chat with him!

Perhaps this is what I found mentioned in a brochure the other day, that there was an 'economy' engine option that gave only 24bhp! Seen an ice cream van in a scrapyard up this way, comically tall.

Possibly. I had a saloon with the 1057 and it was something like 45 BHP. I think they did one with a rediculously low CR you could practically run on kerosine or any old sludge.

i thought you could find out who owned a car from the dvla from the number plate..definately read something about that before

Nope, data protection act prevents them giving that info to anyone except a copper. If you know a copper... I know people who've done that before. The DVLA used to forward a "letter of introduction" to the owner of a car if you asked them, but I believe they have stopped doing this now.
