That is a slightly ungainly looking thing,.. what is its story? FWD? RWD? ... I'm going to be like one of those lazy users and say, Tell Me About... this car.

Yeah, thats an American Dodge Dart with localised Spanish styling which is mostly parts-bin stuff off earlier model Mopars, and maybe a dash of Simca. Those are Chrysler 180 headlights IIRC. Barerios was a local indiginous (sp?) brand to Spain acquired by Mopar and as of c. 1970 it is all "Chrysler" branded. About 10 years later they sold to Peugeot as part of the same deal to divest themselvs of Rootes Group. Barreiros had already been making the Dodge Dart under licence since the A body version was launched in the US. It was (and I think still is) the largest car ever built in Spain. Biggest engine was the slant 6 3700cc used in this GT version. Other engines included a locally produced diesel. Like the closely related Chrysler Valiant "down under" the orginal versions are very similar to the US model but then get more and more "localised". There are versions with quad headlights which look quite nifty. production of these limped on until the late 70s when the Spanish effectively banned large cars with massively punative tax on them. There was also an utterly wierd coupe version which looks like a Saab Sonnet gone all Incredible Hulk.

also while Googling, I found this: I know even less about this than I do about the 3700 Serra Boulevard, other than it is also Dodge derived and built by Serra in Spain It also appears from some Googling (see, you've gotten me started now, all I wanted was a couple of Serra Boulevard pics) that Barreiros were selling Plymouths of some sort, looked like Savoys to me, in Spain but with their own truck derived diesel engines from about 1957. I think from what I can glean (I don't really speak Spanish) that they bought complete cars from Plymouth but without engines, fitted their own and put Chrysler-Plymouth de Barreiros badges on them.

That looks like a illegitimate offspring of a Saab Sonnet and a Oldsmobile Toronado.

Wow, every day's a school day on RR! Never heard of Barreiros before. I seriously want one of those coupes now. Would be nice to take a road trip to Spain to go find one!
