out last night with old skool cortina and friends and they mentioned the bitching on the nsra forum over drayton manor. I veiwed the thread in quesion, and nearly fell off my chair with laughter! heres the gist- some of the guys moaning at all the "stock late model curse word" parking on the showfield. get this that would be; slater's fiesta, old skools escort, old skool cortina's mk 5, and my capri (the HRG one that looks even more stock than mine was in the row behind). we were in the front row because we were first there. we were up at silly o'clock 'cos we were parking the showfield. not because we were the show stoppers. I've heard the bad attitude at drayton before. it happened last year when a guy with a prefect told me he was going to park where he wanted and I couldn't do a thing to stop him. prick. perhaps I should park them in the duck pond ;D. its very rare to come across this narrow mindedness at a rod show (I am a rodder at heart, I've built my rod, ground up and all, never again, not without money/workshop), I guess the trouble comes after the event. I know that some RR's are nsra so they can't all be a bunch of gay gordons, I just don't get the division. sorry for the rant, the thread is here www.nsra.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24273LMAO EDIT- big up the every man rodders on there, fighting for for all thats old and cool

I doubt they'd be going to CARS, i mean a field full of near stock old bangers! Well mine anyway! Got to about page 2 its all about change, i cant afford the time and money to build a propper rod right now but i got some ideas and big plans for the futurewe're all just keeping it real.

I spotted that too, loving it. theres some smart hot rods out there and old skool customs but its not like cars from here are standard or unoriginal. the RWD Mk2 fiesta looked well smart btw anyone know more about it?

Depends what the show is and all that really.
Theres some events which are Pre-49 only. In fact theres the New Forest one is by invite only so they only get the right sort of cars up. Nothing with alloys even, strictly steel or wire wheels old school style.
I believe the NASC has no age cut off at its events. So far enough, presumably any age of car can go & show. (do they have a no FWD rule though? I forget)
The NSRA you have a different issue as they are pre-1972 although "special cases" are made for "radical" vehicles.
If the show flyer states pre-72 or pre-49 you can't complain if you turn up in a '85 car and get asked to move it off the show field. If the show flyer is for modified cars and yours is stock you can't really complain if you are asked to move it off the show field. If you have a modified "later model" and theres no restrictions be vehicle age on the ryder then you leave it parked up where you like.
Shows like Drayton have always struck me as for the shiny costom/rod stuff so I always park up in the trees area (or better yet by the toilets, nice and handy that) 'cos nothing I've ever had is "show worthy".
Not read the thread on NSRA yet, but I can imagine... Theres a few on there think unless your car is genuine steel 1928-1934 Ford you might as well stay home.
I generally avoid the static shows anyway, its all a bit too much lawn chair and all that. I prefer the stuff at the tracks. No "power parking" issues or any BS.

Thats the thing tho, Its a NASC show and NASC isnt a 'hot rod' association!
As for 'show worthy' thats just a way for them to keep away the people who have built cooler cars than them which cost a fraction of the price!

I've heard similar comments from dyed in the wool rodders at Wheels Day before, but most appriciate all the cars that turn up be they rod, custom, classic, stock, old or new, even the PT cruiser club didn't get heckled this year, not really my thing but you have to admire the effort and work involved. Its a shame that the Drayton Rodders can't accept this too

shame isn't it? I belong to a rod club (have done since '98), and while some people have personal veiws of the cars they want to see, they don't mind whats on the showfield so long as they get they're own fix. the weekend was excellent, well laid back. photos are on route to our fearless leader for a gallery (ALL the decent cars, not just pre '49, lol). this subject doesn't give me torrents of rage, it gives me a smile. why do they not pick on the guys that turn up in new vettes and the like? its all good ROCK ON!!

i think, with some of the attitudes displayed there they'll end up in a pub car park with 3 cars in it.

I hope this doesn't end up like the PC forum mess so nip it in the bud here i say.
The 80's marked some changes in cars and the way they were modified, this opened up new generations, or scenes. and to lot of long in the tooths, they are modern cars with no character and curse word build and often not RWD. I imagine thats whats thought anyway.
Every time a member turns up here with a new unfashionable/unloved/unconventional/badly designed/forgotten car, i get excited and inspired. its the future. I exprect the retro goons of the future will see the potential and have the skill to mod cars we take for granted now. hard to imagine but it should happen.

yep..noted..i will post no more, hence my final post was more er sedate.
shame when people get so blinkered though as at the end of the day its still a hunk of metal (sometimes) with a wheel at each corner( or there abouts) that offers us a way to show a bit of creativity and have a bit of fun.
