With regard to the custard situation, the irony is that they’re both made in the same factory now by the same owners… but custard HAS to be Bird’s… What is the world coming to? Next you'll be telling me that HP sauce comes from Holland, or something equally ridiculous!

When I got home tonight it was damp, dark, cold and quite windy. I wasn't feeling in the mood to go in the tent at all. The problem is, I've just told mrbounce that I try to do a bit every evening after work so I don't want to look like I'm full of sh... I needed something quick and easy just to show willing so I mixed up a bit of epoxy and stuck it inside where the repair is going to go. There was a little bit left so I used it up on the back of the repair piece. I never realised when I took the picture that it looks like I'm giving you 'the finger' but I've packed everything up now and I'm not going back out to re-do it because it's freezing cold out there. I might go for a hot bath. Cheers.

I'm going to make a few new years predictions
1. It will be page 83 before the M3 lives again and can be driven
2. The Oil tank will arrive back in thread on page 103 (Hey the M3 is on the road ain't got no time for a 911 oil tank fool)
3. There will be an average of 3 cakes/pastries tarts per page (Not those sort of tarts you sad people)

I wish I had your optimism! Me too.... With it my own projects may look more the mole hill than the mountain..... range! Never mind the oil tank, I was getting into the engine build. And now I am to find there will be an M3 engine build before that gets going again - no need for an oil tank if no engine to connect it to. This nice invisible mending on the M3 floor does make for good practice when it comes to stitching bits back into the 911. All superb work by the way Mr Tea' It's a thread that seldom disappoints.

Its's funny you should say that, DS. I often look at your many posts and wish that I had the same ammount of energy, because you are always doing something. You are spread very thin over so many projects though so it's a bit off the top of each mountain. I'm glad you enjoy reading my ramblings, hopefully as much as I enjoy yours. I was planning on getting that bit welded in today but when my alarm went off this morning, one look out of the window at the biblical storm convinced me to have another hour in bed. When I did get up I went out with the lovely Doctor and we had a very nice day. On the way we stopped at the Post Office to pick up a parcel. I ordered these very expensive stripping discs as someone recommended them. They were really quite expensive so I also ordered some cheaper ones to do a comparison. The others were waiting for me when I got home. The blue ones seem a little bit softer so we'll se how they perform. I wanted to at least do something today so I shot a bit of weld through primer on so I can hopefully get straight into the welding when the hurricane subsides. And a bit more on the piece. The weather was that rubbish today that I didn't even fancy the walk from the car park to the creamy bun cake shop! It has started hammering down again now, I hope all the rain has run out by the morning and I can get something done. Cheers.

The important rule with the clean and strips is to make sure that you avoid panel edges. Keep them on a flat surface without any sharp protrusions. On the duty of taking off paint and rust from a flat surface they do a great job. If you catch them on an edge - Like the "paint lid" hole in the floor - It will rip them to bits very quickly. I find the Norton's outlast any other brand I have brought by a good margin.
This weekend has been a washout here as well with enthusiasm well and truly damped down.

It stopped raining and the sun came out at about 12.30 today so I took advantage and carted the welder down to the tent. By the time I had everything set up it was wazzing down again but it didn't matter because I was in. Yesterday I foolishly thought that it was ready to just weld in. This didn't take into account that I am a complete lunatic and I want it to look as good as I can get it. This is because when installed it will be in a very prominent position. Well, it would be very prominent if I don't re fit the fuel tank... After several hours of faffing about I started tacking it in. That black thing taped on there is actually a piece of copper, I suppose it is ready for a bit of a clean up. It all welded ok without burning any holes through. And it tidied up ok too. I've covered it with spooge for temporary protection. So I spent six hours today fitting a piece which will never be seen. That doesn't include the time to make the part. For a bit of variety, I banged my head on the battery box this time. Cheers.

I know that feeling of spending ages on something that won't be seen. But, if it wasn't done properly, then it would bug the hell out of you.

That is some stellar work on the M3 there!
Hopefully, the end will be in sight soon(ish).
I need to start working on mine again ; fear not, it's not been forgotten about.
OTOH, I'm enjoying some nice cakes myself these days! Who doesn't love a great tart?

I've said it before, if anyone in the future was ever to inspect this car in detail, they still wouldn't find any evidence of it ever being welded! What workmanship you display here. It's inspiring and envyable...

What workmanship you display here. It's inspiring and envyable... Cheers Alex, I always try my best to make it look like it never happened. Nothing last night because I was quite late home. Tonight I thought I had better look at the next bit, re-fitting the 'V' brace box which had been removed to get to repair this section. This bit. The box was repaired when I removed it some time ago. I hope it still fits. Well, it doesn't look too bad. The tabs want a bit of a tweak to get them closer but I'm blaming that on all the tabs having been replaced when I repaired it. Whilst I was offering it up I was reminded of this pitted flange which is just above where the box fits. I cleaned it up a bit. Those open gaps were full of seam sealer. When the sealer was removed it doesn't seem to have any rust between the two skins, which is good. The question is, do I remove the pitted bit and replace it before I fit the box or do I just treat it, paint it and forget about it? All opinions welcomed. And yes, I did bang my head on the diff... Cheers.

Will you think about it again if you left it? I’ve I cut out all the pitted areas on my Escort there wouldn’t be a lot left. But if it’s only an hour to repair what you have, you may sleep better at night.
