I appear to have cake/belly issues too. Particularly at this time of year. π€£
Also, my garage appears to have exploded as well.
And in a final parallel, Iβm just getting the feeling back in my extremities from spending the day outside. Sadly, doing craft stuff for SWMBO rather than anything constructive on either the semi-sensible or the lunatic projects. π
Lovely work on that panel. π

When you're done you'll have removed all evidence that it was ever messed with. Very impressive and lovely to follow along!

I also scrape the βweldthroβ primer off where Iβm welding as it just doesnβt do what it says on the tin. Grinding the the tacks flush before the next tack is the best way to do it I think, but as you can see by my work, I just donβt have the patience. Brilliant work by the way.

With that level of dedication to working in the cold we may soon have to stop taking the mick out of oil cans and porsches!
The above is of course a lie...

Sadly, doing craft stuff for SWMBO rather than anything constructive on either the semi-sensible or the lunatic projects. π Lovely work on that panel. π Cheers Glen. All the above has just confirmed what I have for some time suspected, which is that you are an absolute legend! When you're done you'll have removed all evidence that it was ever messed with. Very impressive and lovely to follow along! That is very kind of you to say, Alex. Thanks. I also scrape the βweldthroβ primer off where Iβm welding as it just doesnβt do what it says on the tin. Grinding the the tacks flush before the next tack is the best way to do it I think, but as you can see by my work, I just donβt have the patience. Brilliant work by the way. Cheers dude. I did think that there must be some secret technique that I was unaware of but if everyone else has the same problem then maybe not. Is it really a bad thing having a little less patience and completing jobs to a good standard or having more 'patience' and spending half a lifetime not completing an oil tank? I'm starting to wonder... "Sadly, doing craft stuff for SWMBO rather than anything constructive on either the semi-sensible or the lunatic projects." Time spent earning 'brownie points' is also constructive ! I really should put that curtain rail up that the lovely Doctor asked me to do almost a year ago... She wants it to be 'done before Christmas'. I don't know what the relevance to Christmas is. Perhaps Santa is going to check it when he comes down the chimney and if I haven't done it I will be placed on the naughty list? With that level of dedication to working in the cold we may soon have to stop taking the mick out of oil cans and porsches! The above is of course a lie... I have no knowledge of these Porsches and oil cans of which you speak... When I got home from work at 7 o'clock this evening I'm pretty sure that the minus five degree temperature would have dissuaded me from going into the tent but that wasn't it. What actually ruined my plans was having done my back in at work this afternoon. It is actually an old injury from a racing crash that I had last century which occasionally rears its head and it has chosen to do so today. Just for the record the racing crash wasn't due to my suddenly running out of talent, it was because of my right hand rear tyre suddenly running out of air. Quiz night tomorrow, last chance to redeem ourselves before New Year. Cheers.

The courier has just carefully delivered this. Despite their best efforts the contents seem to have survived intact. I just need to get a gas bottle now so that I can test it to see if it makes my tent as warm as Barbados. Right, I need to get my thinking trousers on for the quiz. Cheers.

They do work very well in something drafty like a tent, but you do need to leave some ventilation so you don't suffocate.
They're a bit gas hungry too, so be aware you'll get through a bottle pretty quickly.

Lovely as it is to have a nice warm workspace, and it is, those things belt out as much moisture as they do flames. Okay, maybe that was hyperbole. But I've never liked them for making everything rust and for making the roof damp. If I didn't have a single radiator taking the chill off my garage I'd have a Chinese Eberspacher copy in there.

But I've never liked them for making everything rust and for making the roof damp. If I didn't have a single radiator taking the chill off my garage I'd have a Chinese Eberspacher copy in there. Now you tell me about the moisture after the horse has bolted! The only Eberspacher type things I could see were for camper vans and that type of thing. I looked at diesel type space heaters and they were vastly more expensive. They do work very well in something drafty like a tent, but you do need to leave some ventilation so you don't suffocate. They're a bit gas hungry too, so be aware you'll get through a bottle pretty quickly. Funny that you mention gas bottles... I called to get a gas bottle for my new space heater on the way home from work tonight. I wanted one that wasn't too small but also wasn't too big for me to carry with my dodgy back. The lady in the shop said oh yes, I can supply you a bottle, do you need a regulator? I said I don't know, what type of fitting does the bottle have? My reg is a screw in type. Ooooh, you need a clip on one, I'll get you one. And off she went to get one but returned empty handed. I've run out, I won't be having another delivery until the new year. I can't do you a bottle either because I can't find my gas book... Not that a bottle without a regulator would be any good to me. Back in the van I had a quick look on google for Calor gas suppliers near me. There was one not far away at a farm equipment shop on the industrial estate. As I was almost passing by there on the way home I gave it a try. The bloke in the shop said he didn't deal with the gas and that I needed to speak to Bob. Bob was parking up a trailer and would be in soon. When Bob came in he said I don't really do the gas either and the lady who does do it is off today and I don't know where she keeps the gas book. I don't know, maybe it's the same lady from the other shop in which case the gas book may never be found! To give the man his due, Bob phoned said lady and she couldn't tell him where the gas book was but said he could write all the relevant details on a notepad and she would transfer it to the fabled gas book when she was back in. Now, says Bob, do you need a regulator? I told him that I had been informed that I would need a clip on reg for the type of bottle I was getting. Both he and some other chap whose name I didn't get scoured through the stores and they did turn up with a clip on reg. Splendid! Right says Bob, lets go out to the cage to be certain that we have the bottle you need. We went outside to the cage and yes, there was one left. He unlocked the cage and retrieved the bottle at which point it became clear that I didn't need a clip on regulator after all, it was a screw fitting which I already had... I filled out all the details on his notepad for him, paid up and left after thanking Bob for his efforts. What a palava but still, Bob did come up with the goods. When I finally got home it was minus 5.5 degrees and had just started snowing so even with a heater and now also a hard fought gas bottle, I wasn't feeling the urge for any tent action tonight. I had a nice warm bath to soak my back instead. To end on a more positive note, we won the quiz last night. Yay! Cheers.

Yes, you need a propane bottle, which uses a screw in regulator (left hand thread).
Clip on regulators are for propane.

I knew what you mean Glen. π Just left there to aggravate my OCD. Same as all those cakes to upset my type 2 Diabetes. And using Glassfibre to form steel ! Next we will find out that teaboy is just an irony due to having a Nescafe addiction.....

Next we will find out that teaboy is just an irony due to having a Nescafe addiction..... A lot of things around here might be done with smoke and mirrors, DS, but you won't find me drinking coffee. One has to maintain some standards. It has been a busy weekend but not car busyness. We did the going to see my family thing and also the going to see the Doctor's family as well. Shouldn't really need the time of the year excuse to see them but life etc. Must try harder. Some small car related things have been going on in the background. A while ago when I removed the fuel tank there was a steel 'Y' piece which linked some rubber pipes that are part of the emissions control system, I think. It lived in the off side rear wheel arch so you can probably guess what condition it was in. Actually, there's no need to guess. That is pretty horrible but it looked much worse before I picked off all the loose flaky bits. I did look on the BMW parts list but I couldn't see it listed as an available part so I cleaned it up a bit, in the blast cabinet. It has been sitting in a bag ever since, waiting for me to do something with it. Or rather waiting for me to give it to somebody else to do something with it. That somebody has done their part and I collected it today. Now it looks like a freshly plated scabby pipe rather than just a scabby pipe. That other thing with it is from the carbon cannister which is definitely part of the emissions system. I also threw in the new tank strap and brake pipe brackets that I got from Redish Motorsport a while ago, and some M6 combi nuts which are used in various places but were the wrong colour. None of this is very exciting I know, but it is all progress. A while ago I saw an advert for a big end overhaul kit that someone had put together but had subsequently sold the car and had not used it. It was a reasonable price and he took a slight bid on it so I paid him straight away. He posted it on a Royal mail tracked 24 which, according to the Mail they aim to Deliver within 24 hours. It took them 16 days but it arrived today. There are some ACL Race Series big end shells, a sump gasket, an oil filter an 'O' ring for something, might be the dipstick tube and a pair of engine mounts. I always planned on doing the big ends for peace of mind but I probably need a floor in the car before I start thinking about oily bits. Cheers.

Well, I was hoping to get this heel panel welded in properly. There is a slight problem stopping me from doing this. My back has gone and I can barely walk straight. In equally uninspiring news, now that the ice age has finished and the monsoon season has returned it seems that my 'Henry Dam' has not been able to hold back the tide. I'm going to have a hot bath and possibly some hard drugs... Cheers.
