What does one do when you have a few days off work and a top quality German automobile that actually works?
Road trip of course!
Obviously one has to prepare said automobile for the trip.
That consisted of looking at this...
and thinking, 'no, that won't do'.
What I needed was this.
I can't do a road trip without tea.
Where shall we go then?
My youngest daughter, Esther, got me tickets to the Silverstone museum for my birthday, back in 2019, just before the world stopped turning.
So we went there, and even she enjoyed it despite her interest in cars being zero squared.
As it happens, my eldest daughter, Tasmin, lives not too far away from there so I suppose we ought to go and see her.
Especially since this turned up on Christmas eve.
That foot came complete with a full baby attached to it.
My first grandchild, Dita.
She was born, as I said, on Christmas eve which also happens to be my birthday.
I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing but at least it will mean that I will remember when her birthday is.
Whilst the baby was happy having milk for breakfast the lovely Dr Tea and I wanted something a bit more substantial.
We found this place up the A5 near Towcester.
It really was quite super, despite being about twice the price of my normal Saturday morning cafe back home, JJ's.
If you were to look for JJ's on facebook this is the image you would find at the top of their page.
That motley bunch is; Dr Tea, Tasmin, Esther, myself and my old karting buddy Keith and his two grandkids.
I'm not sure if that encourages people to go there or if it has the opposite effect but they have been using it for a few years now.
On New years day there was a car gathering/show in a place called Stony Stratford.
It was only about half an hour from where we were staying so, despite the late night I decided to get up and go for a look.
I couldn't convince anyone else to join me though.
There ware all kinds of things there, just parked along the main street in town and in the town square.
It wasn't easy to get many pictures because there were loads of people there, but here are a few I managed to get.
A Giugiaro Esprit, with a glass roof.
I quite like these but I think that only greenhouses should have glass roofs,
I like these even more than Esprits.
The Elan is so tiny and lovely.
English plastic seems to be a theme here...
I almost bought a Scimitar Coupe years ago, but it never happened.
I always thought they were a nice shape.
Another thing I nearly bought years ago but didn't.
I bought myself a cup of tea and had a nice walk around and it was very pleasant, until it remembered that it is England and started wazzing down.
I began to walk back towards my car feeling a bit disappointed.
I did see this on the way, I thought it was ace but I don't understand the modern registration.
As luck would have it, on the way back to the car I bumped into an old pal of mine whom I haven't seen for a few years, so we had a wander around together and a catch-up.
All in all it was a great few days away with family and friends.
Oh, I almost forgot a picture of my old banger.
Here it is in a lay-by on the way home where I had stopped to stretch my legs.
It ran perfectly the whole time, I just had to put petrol in it, lots and lots of Shell V power.
The computer said it was consuming it at a rate of 25.5 mpg.
For what it is, I can't complain at that.
I hope everyone had as lovely a time over the holidays as I did, and thanks for looking.
