I don't think anyone should be loyal to just a single brand, and discount the others. All manufacturers have their good points, and bad points.
I like Toyota & Ford the most, but i have equal respect for GM stuff, and i've always got a soft spot for anything built by either AMC or Chrysler

I have owned more cars than I could ever remember so I couldn't break them into percentages but in order of amount owned from what I remember owning...
VAG (more than I can recall although not for some time) Ford (2 US pickups, several Cortinas) BMW (2 E30's,E21 and E28) Rover (2 P6's) Vauxhall (1 £90 Cavalier) Mercedes (1 C220)
I guess that makes me a ford man...but it is down to an affinity for certain models than the brand itself. My brand loyalty WAS for VAG but I burnt myself out on them - I don't think I'd have another, apart from a nice VR Corrado but even then there are other things that are higher on the shopping list.

Having only owned two cars, which were exactly the same, just a year apart I can't really say yet. But, when I was a bit younger it was always Fords I wanted, namely Capris, Granadas and RS Turbos mostly. Whenever I saw a mag with one in, I'd buy it. I'm still not entirely sure how I ended up liking Triumphs as much as I do now... And out of the Fords, only Capris really float my boat now. Got ferried about in a Mk2B Granada 2.8i a lot in my mid teens (Ironically it was mostly driven to watch the Bangers, I think that's where it ended up in the end), it was quick(ish), but boring.

I'm not brand loyal, I like all kinds of cars... I've owned eleven Volvos, six Opels, two Benzes (one of them a Hanomag though), one Austin, one Ford, one Saab, and one Willys... So one may think that I prefer Volvos and Opels but that's more of a slump...

I like cars and can find something interesting about almost anything but Audis; I really don't 'get' them for some reason.
I like British cars - all the BL tat imaginable as well as the expensive stuff and have run an old Jag for a decade now and really don't feel the need to change it for something else, probably ever.
I like French cars too, or at least the older ones. I could find room for a Peugeot 604 or a Citroen CX; I'm cherry picking my favourites, but they are the tip of the iceberg. There is some lovely stuff from France.
I find myself strangely drawn to cars from the former Eastern bloc. I really don't know why but they fascinate me and would take pleasure puttering along in a Zaporozhets, its little ears catching the wind whilst the traffic builds up behind me.
I guess Germany has made some good cars, though I find many of them bland. I like the E12 and E28 BMW 5 series and prefer the '5' to the Merc E class, I prefer the 'S' class to the '7' series and a Jag to either. I'm sure VWs are good cars, but aside from the original Polo, none charm me. Borgwards are pretty things.
So, Ford or GM? - In Europe it has to be Ford. In the USA: GM. I like a number of Lincolns though...
I don't like Japanese cars, but I owned one and liked it. (Nissan 200SX)
