Are there any companies that specialise in this? All my company would do is "suspend" the insurance - I'd keep paying the same price but wouldn't be going anywhere. As the policy is for road risks I thought this a total rip-off and cancelled it.
Now the Benz is off the road where I can work on it (at last!), I'm a bit concerned that it may still get nicked / vandalised etc, as it seems to be a target for every passing f*ckwit in this town. I will be "immobilising" it but it still wouldn't stop some braindead sh!tbag torching it.... Any ideas?

Ah, mine's just on private ground. There is a garage but it has a VW Fastback in there at the moment! (Not mine unfortunately)

I've got a mate who's got his mk1 Polo Derby on a policy where he's not allowed to do any miles. I believe its cheap. I'll find out who its through.

Gooooooooood question. It is possible, and doesn't cost much at all cos theres no highway risks. I'm gonna check with my faves; lancaster, flux, roadsure, see if they do it. I had a dream some Muppets I know stole my 3 door last night and i had to use my detective work to steal it back from their den. What a nightmare

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I asked a coulpe of the insurers about this at teh Ally Pally classic show. They said the car needs to be garaged which is a curse word for me since I don't have one. Interestingly they said that a normal policy would only cover a car in roadworthy condition which seems a bit odd. If anyone finds a company that will insure on the drive then I'll also be glad to hear about it as the Oxford is out there SORN'd now

Thanks for the replies. Knowing what insurance companies are like, if I did manage to get some kind of policy on the Benz I reckon it'll be a) expensive, and b) not worth the paper it's printed on. I was hoping there was some kind of basic car insurance policy, more like house and contents insurance, but it seems a bit more complex I'd best take the engine out sharpish so no-one can drive it off

Is it at your house?
If it is then check your home & contents cover... you may be able to claim off that in the event of loss or damage when it is immobile on your drive.

It's outside my friends rented garage, which I don't think is insured. It's not ideal but better than crawling around Her Majesty's Highway like I was doing before! If I get a chance I'll ring around some companies and see what they can do, and report back.

I asked Adrian Flux about this for the fasty... they weren't happy with the fact it was in a barn (not a brick-built structure) and also that it was somewhere other than a normally occupied residential address (it's on a farm, miles from anywhere)
i basically only wanted it to cover me for daft things like the barn roof falling in, but they wouldn't have it.
