OK seems the worst of winter has passed us by now? So lets recap. my poor old Trans Am has spent 2 weeks as a block of ice. A few days back when it was still icy I needed to get something out of it, but the doors were both frozen solid. I tried the hatchback, which on these is electrically operated when you turn the key it pops it and lifts it. It also has a "soft close" action which is motorised. But it was frozen solid too. So I left it. But it appears the motor had been trying to open it... For several days until it thawed. At which point I had a flat battery. I was concerned for the motor but this works fine. I suspect others have been less lucky over the cold snap. Who has stories? [yeah, I know I still need to replace that front number plate!]

My rear tyres have worn down a fair bit as they seem to have clocked a fair few more miles than the fronts ;D

Nothing major... I schredded some frozen door seals before I had the chance to preserve them with a bit of petrol jelly... Then a rather large chunk of the sump guard sacrificed itself for a large block of black ice I hit on the road, too fast to avoid it. Also shredded the front spoiler-thingy a bit... But my most notable loss is a hubcap I probably lost whilst drifting through some snow drifts. I'm positiveI can find it in spring when the snow melts. People here tend to display them on the road side if they find them. Rather then nicking them... Also lost a fair few gallons of diesel fuel driving randomly through the snow... ;D Cheers, Jan

our mitsubishi now has a LOT of major scratches down the side of it after it slid into a hedge, some dipwad decided that he'd help by dragging the car through the hedge and damage the mirror instead of trying to pull it out of the ditch. He was more concerned about his precious hedge than us, he yanked it so hard I thought he was going to rip the car in half. In the end we got it out by pushing it forwards (without his help)

my wallet has had a huge hit after taking 30 family members from a car park to where we were having the meal (and back at 9PM ), had to do loads of trips in low ratio and slow as hell due to solid ice on the roads, the disco faired well though, its just got a drinking habit

Cracked a bumper on the 'disposable' E34 Touring, bought specifically to save the E39 and E28 from getting damaged! Also lost a battery in the E28
But the worst thing was the demise of the 106 diesel. The fuel pump gave up and with 3 weeks of MOT left and a dodgy handbrake and broken seat mounting, it has spelled out it's own fate. Lasted as long as it was required to though, so still didn't 'fail' as such, was planning to replace it anyway!
Edit: Also punctured a good tyre on the E28 by driving over a large bolt that somehow went right through the tyre tread! That was annoying because if not the frozen snow I bet it would have just fallen under the tyre and been spewed out.

Checking the Imp over ready for Smithy's welsh run out tomorrow only to find this.... Its supposed to be a competition coupling and almost indestructable if it did thid sliding about in the snow I don't hold much hope for them on Imps rallying in the forests!! Managed to find a standard one to fit for smithy's run, hope it hold out ok

My fiesta, sat in the garage, has picked up two minor coolant leaks i think the anti-freeze MIGHT have been a bit weak, was ok last year, could be worse, at least it's just a new pump gasket and hose clip needed. As for the Sierra.... will let u know in a week when the MOT man finds more welding needed!

My daily golf suffered a cracked rad even though the antifreeze was fine. Much love to my girlfriend for getting a bus to euros while I was at work to get the new rad, lads at work for running me home for tools and Joe public for random offers of help while I was putting the new radiator in under the Asda car park floodlights.

All okay over here, apart from the screenwash bottle on the blue panda freezing solid, even though it was pure minus-9 fluid Only other thing is that all the water in the radiator has disappeared, and there are no visable leaks (uh oh, headgasket time )

Only the battery on the 2004 transit I think the E23 has not been out since the MOT due to the spring snapping.

I think all is well, frozen locks etc, dodgy batteries etc but all made up for by the immense fun driving in the snow in a pug 106 that only cost 50quid ;D and I didn't even break it

A dead battery and thats it. The E28 did a 1370 mile trip to Isle of skye and back. Good times.

Nothing, everything's fine. I have a bit of a routine for snow - the first time it happens (unless it's just a tiny dusting) I stay off the road for a bit. My theory is that the majority of bad winter driving happens in the first few days of it. Then I just pick my days carefully after that, pondering whether the conditions are good enough for a typical thick person not to crash into my car. This theory has worked out well so far.
