If i was forced to pay for it i'd run my own server and host my own or rent server space from someone else, it would probably cost more but it would have other uses.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

I pay for both, photobucket because it's quick and I'll bosh everything on there (stuff I've taken and re-hosting other stuff) and Flickr because of the community on there. I'll only put my own stuff on Flickr as I appreciate the advice and critique etc. My Flickr www.flickr.com/photos/51266636@N08/

Depends what you do with your pictures. Flickr is more of a social community of its own, with groups/sub-forums and comments on pictures etc, photobucket is more just somewhere to host stuff to post on forums. That's how I see it anyway. All the pics I take or things I scan are hosted on Flickr, all the things I've saved off from elsewhere that I want to post on, say, here are hosted on Photobucket. I don't know about Flikr but Photobucket has the img labels on photos and all you do is click and it copies them (without having to right click and select copy) Brilliant feature speeds things up alot! I paid for 3 years photobucket and it was under a dollar a month by far, bargain imo. I have one paid account and one free as i used to have to split to keep under the limits!! have a few from skinnylew account: and timmylew account:

Ahh - I was confusing them as both the same since I learnt how to link flickr Just want a one stop shop - one payment per year - end of account limits (ish) to share my photos in one organised place so I can find the damn things rather than across several other accounts

i'd go with popuptoaster on this one, i pay for a hosting stuff somewhere else, get a lot of disk space and bandwith. And i get people who i can shout at if it doesn't work, no stupid adverts or popups or whatever. And i can exactly see who's stealing my pics/bandwith ;D
That said, Retro-Rides managed to make me go over my montly bandwith a couple of times in the past!

If I keep posting pics I think I'm gonna be in trouble too Nearly as much trouble as getting her car in this state

No adverts with a Pro Flickr account, unlimited bandwidth and storage, and you get access to the stats about visitors/links to your pics etc. I have a few websites hosted with loads of space, but as I can't be bothered to write or install the PHP scripts I'd need to make organising pics as simple as with Flickr (23,000 photos etc on there so far...) I'll stick with that Car 54 - David Ellis - 1973 Aston Martin V8 by retromotoring, on Flickr

theres IMGUR and a few others as well Personally since I have my own website, and I pay for the webspace, I have a perfect place to just FTP all my pics , so all my pics are hosted on my own site.
Come to think of it my Virgin internet came with a load of webspace too so I could bung stuff on there, requires use of an FTP client rather than all being web based of course. (Its no harder than windows explorer though really)

OK how easy is it to organise pics on Flickr as I don't seem to be able to do that very well? You can put them into sets, I find it easiest to do that just after they've uploaded, simplier than the 'organise' tab anyway. Oh.. well if everyones putting pics up Renault World Series - Silverstone by Butter'z, on Flickr RE-Amemiya RX7 by Butter'z, on Flickr

I'd say Flickr, but that's because I went to university with the guy that wrote the original.
Beyond that, I got an old computer that someone was throwing away, stuck a free Linux distro on it and use it to run apache2 here at home to host random odds and ends off.
So long as the filesize of each image isn't stupid, most upload bandwidth these days is adequate, but you really do need a static address to do that. some providers give you one, others don't. check your terms of service though, some isp's get all snotty about it.

I started paying for a Photobucket account earlier this year when I'd got near to the limit on free storage there. Easier to pay and carry on there than start all over again. I did try a flickr account at some point but found it more annoying to use and link photos from. As others have said, I see it more of a community thing. I don't use any online social networking sites either. I can't remember where but I did get some sort of offer/deal when upgrading the Photobucket. I chose a photo printing offer and got a bunch printed for free so it might be worth a quick look to see if you can find something similar.
