I've suddenly started thinking about the awesome things you could do to transit vans and they're varients. I'm thinking one of these: All painted beautifully and absolutely SLAMMED I mean scrapping the ground low on the original wheels. Anyway here's some more Had to have 2supervan ;D

I've always liked the mkI and IIs but I never really realised the mkIII Transit was retro, we have one as a mobile first aid unit at St Andrews Ambulance, and I've never thought it felt retro, although that could be because the first aid room in the back is filled with up to date equipment, so it feels modern to work in. Well, that and it's very modern compared to its predecessor, a very much retro Leyland Sherpa which I rather liked, unfortunately despite an engine replacement at some stage and being kept roadworthy as long as possible, it got to a stage where it was knackered beyond salvation (well, it'll never work as an ambulance or first aid unit again, put it that way, and it'll need work if it's ever to be anything else) and it's since been retired from service, although we do have a pretty versatile modern LDV type Sherpa which started life as a 16 seat minibus with the local council, and which, through some cunning and subtle customisation on our part (if I do say so myself! ;D) can be transformed from or to a crewbus, a first aid unit, a briefing room and a variety of other things at the drop of a hat. The Transit's nice enough, but for some reason I've always liked the Sherpa, whether the early, chrome bumpered, utterly retro Leyland, a later Freight Rover or Leyland Daf, or the modern LDV, it'll be a shame to see them replaced, they're not far off being phased out in favour of the new LDV Maxus, which is a nice enough van and very modern, I've not driven one yet but I've been in one, and they're good enough vans but they just don't have the character of the bonneted Sherpa type van.

Hmm, Transits... I've got a daily driver Tourneo - almost exactly like this: (except it's RHD and has the optional alloys plus a few dents!) I often think a bit of lowering and a black centre and polished rim on the wheels would do wonders, but I've promised the wife I won't lower it and it has been known to wear the front tyres on the inside as it is. Here's how it might look:

I like mk1's an 2's. That mk2 certainly gets my vote. Not bothered about the mk3 though and it certainly isn't retro yet. There 'bangers' at the moment. Not got the character of earlier models. (yes I know, people said that about the mk2 at one time)

Having had numerous VW vans of different ages, I then had a LWB Mk1 Transit with twin sliding doors and shonky V4, blew it up and regretted selling it. So bought this two years ago and never looked back, just put it back on the road after its winter hibernation, ready for another summer of doin' stuff. For the money I've got in this you couldn't even get a half decent MOT'd Type 2, we've got 240volt hook-up, fully insulated for both noise and temp, king size double bed and subtle looks. Winner ;D In full, get off my land mode... On a job last year at Bruntingthorpe.

Thanks bud, either that or a SWB Mk1/2 with a modern Duratec in it for daily duties, lowered on wide steels and straight paint. A LWB can be a pain to park sometimes... Just bought some captains seats off the bay too... ;D

It all starts with captains seats, then it'll be a bar, buttoned dralon, turned wood spindles, etched glass, viking murals and a deep shag pile carpet. Could any van ever be as good as Transformation? More blue-transit-on-runway-with-plane-action..... Bit Carry-On this one. In fact, is this the hospital from one of the films?

All Cool, I'm Not Mk-ist and i've considered the potential of a Mk3 for a while, only because i haven't seen a mk2 on the road for ages, Bryn, that Mk2 looks the business. bank rob Van mode, camper mode, what more do you need?!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Did somebody say optics? Love those custom vans, all my pics are non-digital... Ahh for a scanner. Sorry norman, the only pics I've got of the inside are on slide film, when I get my tilt and swivel captains chairs in I'll post one up. It's basic ply panelled with the bed, shelves and a double table arrangement that I made. One for the inside, and the other slides out for under the awning, drinks on the deck styleee. The best thing I did was fit a spinning roof vent, it keeps the inside ventilated and smelling frrresh, even after four months in storage! Rockin' the bank robber style... wanted a panel van so we could sleep in it without being detected, plus my longboard slides up into a cradle in the roof, it just wouldn't go in a SWB. Ideal when we were in South west france on holiday and wanted to stay next to the beach without paying. Did somebody say traveller? ;D
