Mk3 Fiestas are good cars, not very appealing but they're cheap to run and actually handle quite well on fat wheels- if a MK3 it must be then the XR2 is always a good choice, otherwise the other route I was considering was mega fat wheels with escy bubble style arches, body colour bumper and perhaps the lip of the bonnet which sits between the headlights lopped off, just avoid wing style spoilers like the plague!!! Man I need photoshop. Otherwise Mk2 are a bit easier to mod, the straighter body, while not as ace as the MK1, could be 'euro-ed' quite easily. However insurance for a MK3 1.1 would be actually be dearer for a 17 yr old than my 1.3 Retro to curse word Rapid, which happens to be for sale... ( can't blame a girl for trying!).

Or van it, mk3 vans look quite cool, though I think panels may be hard to get hold of.

Mk3 fiestas are ASS, I think he should spend the money on petrol, CD's, beer, drugs etc and leave the festa as it is, otherwise he's gonna look like a barry.

Thanks to everyone here He has already bought it: 1995, presentable condition, 1.3(I think), full Mot, Metalic blue ...£200 I thought I'd ask because he had the decency to say he did NOT want bodykits/ice lights/barryboy/Macydees image. As my tupence worth I suggested a set of these: Revoution 6X14 And some of these: Or a pair from this range: ...and then leave well alone and just maintain/look after.

£200 quid isn't bad for a first ride, specially as i still see them as brand new! a mix n match of the cars in darrenw's features selection should work. are Mk3's really worse than mk1's and 2's? My Mk1 wasn't the best built but tones of fun!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Funnily enough, me and my girlfriend were talking about the Mk3 Fezza just yesterday, wondering if it was in any capacity retro yet. We spotted a really clean looking XR2i, and I must admit it looked pretty nice. I think less is more with these, because there are still too many "kitted up" sh!tboxes around. Plus, Ford saw fit to re-hash the thing once a year for 27 years so it got progressively uglier. Technically I don't think they're up to much. I throw them in the same bag as the Mk5 Escort - a truely fuggin' awful car produced when Ford thought they could tack an Escort badge on any old heap and flog it to the masses becuse of the brand. However, I drove an S-plate Mk16 Fiesta (or whatever the last versions were before the new 'un came out) for a couple of days doing a few hundred miles in it, and I was surprised at how punchy it was! Ragged the ass off it most of the time as it wasn't my car and it didn't pop. No clue what engine was in it as there was no badge and I didn't have time to lift the bonnet. It cornered pretty well too - I gave it hell round the country lanes and it performed OK. In a few years I reckon (despite being a bit sh!te) the Mk3 will start getting appreciation - I'm starting to get urges for an XR2i now...

must resist......... must resist......... ive got an L reg one sitting doing nothing with a fooked engine all i want is lower and matt black, maybe with a 1.3, oh mk1 headlamps look pretty cool but will need cable tieing in position ill get the pic up later, quite fancy a 1.7 X'flow in a mk3 thats mine, not bad for nowt but needs a new engine and a less complicated one at that but as its post 93' it requires a CAT and all that curse word so I'm ion a dilema ATM spend the money on wings for the mk1 or a new engine for this, ill post up the pics with mk1 lamps in position later www.fiesta.piwko.pl/^^^yellow one on page 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

My Mk1 wasn't the best built but tones of fun! Its amazing to think that a very early Mk3 fiesta could actually be nearly 17 years old - the same age as someone who can now legally drive I don't think Mk3 Fiestas are that bad - especially when you consider what competition was about at the time, and as a first car to be messing around with it seems ideal, certainly the modern day equivilent of the cars we had access to in my early driving career. I'm sure if a car like the Micra or Fiat Uno was suggested we would all be appluding the chosen mode of transport but from what I can remember such cars were really no better or worse than the old Fiesta - just less likely to be driven within an inch of its life by a spotty, baseball cap wearing yoof. I can remember seeing a picture in one of the 'Boy Racer' monthly mags many years ago of a five door MK3 Fester with shaved door handles, clear indicators and repeaters, colour coded & smoothed bumpers & lowered over a set of those 'faced' Mk4 Escort RS2000 wheels - it really did look the nuts IMO I've also been mightily impressed by the handling ability of a late povo-spec Zetec 1.25lx Fiesta. It was being driven by its owner who is a bit of a demon driver and he literally made the thing 'dance' as we travelled around some of the Welsh country roads whilst following the Rally GB. Not being afraid to use dollops of left foot for braking & use heel and toe helps matters

Looks a bit like an AMC Pacer I think MK3 are great cheap cars, learnt to drive in ours, they're comfy and do 95mph at a push, what more can you ask for £200?? Revolutions or pepperpots look good on and spot lamps are a must I rek. Samyboy- scrap yard+ some cash= 2ltr zetec = sleeper! I wanted to do that with our rusty maroon one My dad drives a Mk4 1.4 zetec around the Boston area and it goes like hell, if you see a balding mad in a black one with UFE at the end of the reg, don't take him on, he overtakes anything, anywhere; used to rally - fearless!!

Only way it could look remotely unshite On the bumpstops, no trim of any description, delocked On Black RWD escort "Dartboard Steels" with 175/50/13s stretched on Other than that leave it alone and save up for when you need to replace it after spanking it off a tree ;D I remember what I was like at 17 My Lovely Citroen GSA "Minter" lasted all of 3 weeks "Momentary lapse of talent" Offset Head on into a 3 month old Chavalier And Samyboy..... you should be ashamed of those.... the Badboy Chav wagon is hideous and those lights make your one look surprised like its being anally violated If you want to re-engine yours, may I recommend a Zetec SE....1600`s are cheaper than 1400`s or 1.25`s.... what a shame ;D
