Well I stripped the carb down and everything seemed ok, when back together if I blow down the fuel pipe then tip the carb upside down it blocks off so think the floats ok.. Everything inside the carb seemed ok. I think I've pretty much fixed that persistent pain in the problem though!! I was checking the flow of fuel out the tap and I noticed it was trickling a bit rather than flowing properly and I could hear the fuel cap hissing a bit so I pulled it out and the fuel started to flow like the Niagra! Took the cheap rubbish cap off and made a proper breather hole put it back on and the flow was still perfect so put it all back together for a test run and it was loads better! Full throttle blasting about no problem - it's slightly missy at lower revs though. Also the idle speed screw doesn't seem to be having any effect anymore though for some reason? It may possibly be on eBay by the weekend sadly, feel like I've lost my enthusiasm for it - might be time for someone else to have it. Anyone fancy a swap?

I got a bit like that. Mines just not worth a TIT though so its staying... Id sooner see it dusty in the back of the shed than see some little scrote on ebay buy it.

Took it out on a milk and maltesers run yesterday and it was spot on, started in an instant pulled healthily and fast and was cine on the way back too. However it was only 5 mins up the road so it seems it's fine on short journeys - when I gets hot it begins it's misfiring nonsense - what could that point to? Fooked ignition coil? Internal condenser causing problems? errrr... Points seem ok, the condenser is new and done approx 4 miles.... Oh and my lights seem to have stopped working even though the switch and bulbs are fine and dandy... ? Bah!

This is an epic project. Stick with it Daveyboy. Your misfire sounds like too much fuel. Is it a pig to start when hot??? If so the deffo too much fuel at idle. Not sure about Puch carbs, but if it has a idle mixture screw, try winding that a 1/2 turn leaner. The other thing to check is the float level. Again this may be a bit suck it and see adjustment, but if the fuel level is too high, this will cause it to be too rich at tickover.

Hi Love this Puch, Just wondering why your running L plates though?? If you past your test before 2001 don`t you get a full moped license which means you don`t have to use them and you can carry passengers??
Keep up the good work Cheers Adrian

Thanks guys.. Oh and I was a couple of months before the cut off date for Grandad rights on a moped! Hence why I needed to do my CBT.. If I ever do my big bike test I can take em off Can you just go the post office for a replacement disc do you know? What carb and main jet you running on yours now Dan? And how did you get over the fuel filter problem I have? Ie.. Tap on one side of tank carb on other and if the filter is there it either kinks the pipe or you have to run it against gravity which keeps possibly attributing towards the fuel starvation...

I think for the tax disc theres a form to fill in from the big post offices.. As for main jet, Its an 88. which with the 50cc head I think is a little large. And for filtering. Nothing ;D Just cleaned the in-tank filter and the small filter in the carb banjo and its never clogged up I couldnt get the routing right either. And if I did the filter would slowly bend and I didnt want it to snap and leak fuel on the engine Oh and I'm saving for my bike test now... Want to get rid of the L plates and be able to ride a 500cc burgman ;D

Yeah i was wondering that... Seeing as with a cbt you can ride up to 125cc... If with the old moped licence its the same? Or if you have to ride "literally" a moped in the official sence. I.e motorcycle with pedals... , But then where would a new 50cc scoot fall into that??? Seems a bit hit n miss realy.. I wouldnt want to get tangled up in it for fear of getting stung personally.

Just ordered a sprocket with 42 teeth - should give the ignition a break at cruising speeds and make the points and condenser last longer (and make it faster ) just not sure what size jet my carb needs - it doesn't feel very Torquay at all and bogs down at lower revs and up hills etc.. It's only a 15mm bing copy - reckon 88 would be too big? Lights still not blooming workin - hopin it's not the coil, I'll have to continuity test the wires I guess.

I did some reading up on this before I brought the GN, you can ride upto a 50cc if you have the 'grandad' car license. According to the government a 2 wheeled vehicle upto 50cc is classed as a moped, with or without gears. However there is a power restriction, I just thought it would be more straight forward just to get the CBT passed and know that I could legally ride a 125 without any issue from 'the law'. I was a member on a UK scooter site a few years back when I had the TGB and I know a few of them had been pulled because they were hammering along on what should have been a 50cc (modded so it was over the restricted power output) & got into alsorts of problems over it. I think it's advisable just to do the CBT & be done with it, it also acts as a reminder to do the shoulder check & stuff which after a few years of car driving you kinda forget to do everytime.

Dungbug is correct, but there is also a power and power to weight ratio restriction on the CBT provisional entitlement as well. Ditto the advise on doing a CBT, is well worth it.
Personally, I'd do a full test ASAP and have the whole thing done with....

I'm planning on it for next summer Me too, when it goes back to being 1 test instead of being in 2 parts. I need to read up on it all realy. know it sounds cheaky but i want to do it the easest way. I have no need to be out on a 600cc straight away. Just want to lose my L plates and maybe get a superscooter for work dutys... Was wondering how involoved a restricted test is...

You can do the 'light bike' ( I think it's called the A2 or something), this restricts you to a max output of 33BHP for 2 years, no L plates needed. After 2 years you can ride any bike, you can buy a 600 but it has to be restricted to 33BHP and after 2 years the restriction can be taken off. This is the test I'm planning to do next year & I'll hopefully be doing it on the GN as I know the bike & I'm confident in handling it.
