Doh!! On removal of my forks it transpires that the threaded piece at the top of the sliding tube on one side has smashed to bits!! Permission to say cock. I'm gonna try and fashion something from all the curse word dotted about my garage in an effort not to spend more money on it (particularly as another vehicle of mine is nearing road worthyness and is hogging all my spare funds ) It does seem like this little ped just doesn't want to be on the road! In pieces again!

Strange you say that. I was going to ride mine today , But got as far as getting it out. Starting it (first kick may it add ) and then putting it away again.. Might get a quick blast tommorow though now the van is lowered and i don't have to be vanless anymore. So yeah... Mine works and i don't ride it. you want to ride yours but it don't work...... Wanna swap hahahahah

Bodged! took a nut and filed the edges slightly then drove it through the centre of spring insert. Took it to the top of the coils then threaded the plastic top back on, put a wide penny washer on the top then pushed the insert back in, put it all back together with spring washers and clamped it down nice and tight! I'll be honest, this bodge engineering is actually more solid feeling than the standard Puch effort! Why would you have a cast aluminium thread that is load bearing I have no idea - if the other one snaps I'll do the same Witt that done I grabbed my helmet ( ) and set off for a blast! It seemed pretty good - it's deffo needing some tweaks but it's very rideable and keeps up with traffic fine in fact it's a bit faster than the general flow of traffic which is nice as I'm not paranoid about the traffic behind me. I took it up to one of my favourite local spots and took a pic: Jumped back on and headed off on my way, decided as it seemed to be running well to tackle a steep hill I know ;D much to my surprise it ripped up it nicely! There's a hairpin up the hill that I like to stop at in my cars for pics so stopped on the Puch: Now up this hill it's uber posh (Rafa Benitez lives up there for one!) and when I was taking the pics a new Rangey went round the hairpin and I'm almost certain the guy giving me two thumbs up with a massive grin was Ian Rush!! ;D That made me smile! I carried on and went for a little while until it began to choke and cough a bit, running ou of fuel pretty far away from home, managed to coax it a little further then turned the petrol tap to the 'get you home' supply which got me a bit further, got onto a national speed limit road in the lanes and couldnt resist - pulled back the throttle and went for it! Bad idea - not only did the throttle cable come out of the grip but it cut out (fumes). Pulled into a lay-by and took another pic: Bit of messing got the cable back in and it fired up, managed to get home and topped up the tank - grabbed my rucksack to go on my first 'useful' trip.. the offy! Just need a few carb adjustments I think, it's still a little bit 'pinky' too so I might double up the base gaskets as Retrowagen suggested -the good thing is I can now use it and tweak it as I go

Hmmm.... Today it's not running as well. Idles fine, seems alright for a while then it'll lose all power intermittently on off on off like it's a bloody rockin horse. Not sure if it's just carb/fuel or perhaps ignition as well. I'll might take it out later and try and put my finger on what circumstances it does it.

If you nearly ran it out of fuel, theres a good chance your carb may have sucked in some curse word from the tank. Ive had this happen loads of times, just clean the jets and its happy days

Not actually touched it for a few weeks, I think the ignition is goosed from over revving - or at least the points have slipped. Capri is on the road so been playing with that a bit but neither vehicle is usable even though both are MoT taxed and insured! Ill have another look at the puch this week though as I'd like to get back on it, I may try and clean the carb too just in case.

Sounds good, hope you get it sorted I was gonna ask you about puch's aswell, I'm considering getting one to do up. From looking at all the mopeds on here (yours, retrowagens, all the others), i have decided that i want a softtail one with a proper swingarm, but i have no idea what model this would be :S Also, are the 2-speeds that much quicker than the single speeds, and if so, can the single speeds be tuned as much? Thanks in advance, would really appreciate some advice

I don't wanna hijack but i thought i'd be some help.
I think the soft tail one is a puch maxi S, retrowagens is my old one. I don't think you can get puch maxi two speeds, you can on tomos a3's but not maxi's. All puch engines are pretty much identical so all as tuneable as the next, if that makes any sense.

Yep the swingarm model is the S model in the older terms, I think towards the 80's it became the norm though.
As for 2 speeds, There are two different types (sorry to correct you down&out)
Theres a 2 speed auto which does what it says...
And theres the 2 speed semi manual which has a gear selector on the left grip..
Both are very rare, Not much quicker than a normal one (they just rev lower) and realy hard to find parts for as the crank cases are individual to those models.
If i were you id go for a single speed one.
If mine was lighter and i changed the gearing a little it would be easily doing 60.. I reakon if you had the balls Mine could be made to do 70!!!

Proper fed up of this little unreliable bag of wibblepoo now! Got it running sounded good, full throttle fine, light throttle fine basically FINE! Then it's literally as if someone is pressing the shutdown button, it just dies then won't start for 5-10mins and the process is repeated.
Unfortunately I've lost all inclination to continue with this or the capri. Think I haven't just lost my mojo - think it's actually finally had enough and died :/

Balls, what happened? Fancy making a puch bonfire? haha. hhmmmmmmmmmm As for what happened. I'm not realy sure. I started it up and it was running fine, Rode it to the end of the road and waited for a car to pass and the revs dipped. Still running but 4 stroking a little. Pulled away. Went up round the block slowly then wound it up a little on the run back. Around a mile is all. Do it once a week if I'm not using it just to keep it moving . Came down my road and it wouldnt pull, Gradually got slower and slower untill it just stopped running and i coasted into the drive. Then it wouldnt start. Ive had the head off it today and had it running. But it has alot of oil in the cylinder. Looks and smells a little weird. I'm thinking a gearbox seal has gone or the case has cracked. And its burning gearbox oil. Also noticed that i can move the piston down with my finger easily a couple of mm. Think the big end has alot of play

Oh dear! I had a play with mine again, (someone must of jump started the mojo) Choke plate was a bit stuck so freed it off and also replaced the condensor. Made the wire routing a bit better and checked the points - still flat. Removed the switch cover to eliminate accidental earthily of the kill switch and took it out. Started instantly and performed faultlessly on a drive about up the prom and back. Went out with a mate and the problems started again. It's intermittent - on, off, on, off, on, off etc... If I stop and let it idle for a bit the shoot off it's perfect! Fast fun and works fine.... For 15-20 seconds the. On-off off off on on on off on off on again. Had to get off t and walk it up a hill (idling still) as it wouldn't pull me up it at all. Then it cut out and wouldn't restart even with my Mayr pushing me and me pulling the lever for a good 40 seconds or so, tried again it started and on we go again. Pulled the filter off and shortened the petrol hose a more direct route. No effect. Just taken the carb off and removed the float chamber. Floats working perfectly. Took main jet out, it's completely clean and free. Have noticed that there is black oil deposits coming out of some of the exhaust seams and that there is quite a few thick deposits in the exhaust too but I guess this is just the fact that 2strokes aren't very environmentally friendly... Anyone have any clues? Its going on eBay this week and that's not an empty threat either, I've had enough and want to get something else bit id like to try and give it ONE last chance. If not someone is gonna get a proper bargain as you all know I've spent an absolute fortune on it and it'll probably not make more than, what? £150? Spent over about 700 on it... why do we get carried away with money saving ventures?? Couldnt I just keep it simple!!!!? Anyway, anyone got any bright ideas?

Id say that sounds like the float needle getting jammed in its guide.... Wild guess but would need a new carb to check. That said repro carbs are known for faults.
