ok i was just chatting today to a mate and asking if one wanted to build a replica of a car like many of the kitcar cobras etc about.. what would you build and using what donor?? both a serious idea and then something more silly so i will begin.. firstly a serious one..: a jaguar xj13 replica.. why?? because not only cant i buy a real one.. but they are the coolest car in the world..!! and what doner?? simples.. a bmw 750il why? because they are relatively cheep for a very nice v12 engine and decent brakes and hubs etc.. the car would use a modded audi a8 transaxle and bespoke suspension.. utalising twin wishbones all round.... ok heres the more fun one..... take a nice db9 and clothe it in a new fibreglass replica bodykit of...... a mk2 capri... see what i did there?! ok anyone else?? and please include pics.. si

There's only once, really, and it's both realistic and silly - silly beacuse it'll cost a small fortune, but realistic because one day, I will build one: A Ford GT40 MK1. Donor? Not really. Probably a 302 v8, with an Audi transaxle. Not sure about running gear, but most reps seem to use Ford stuff - oddly enough. Why? Well, just look at it.

I was always taken by the fibreglass replica '55-'57 T-Bird but the thing is when ever I've seen one they are the same sort of money you'd pay for a complete but needing TLC real one... I did see one for sale many years ago for £1500 but the phone was never answered when I rang. they are based on Mustang IIs and the one I saw for £1500 had a 2.3 in it! Ouch. The "good" ones usually have 302s in and I'd maybe go with a fuellie one and 4AOD, make it a sort of protouring job. I also saw some guys selling GRP Henry Js a while back. Naturally it would have to be a gasser.

a jaguar xj13 replica.. I 2nd that! XJ13 = sexiest car of all times!! And of course it has to have a Jag V12 and down-draft injection with open trumpets! Oh my god, I love the XJ13!! Another reason would be: almost all current XJ13 replicas look awefull ;D

I take it the RS1700T is Malcolm Wilsons . . .
Anyhoo . . your all wrong . . the only replica worth building is . . . a Lancia Stratos . . proper retro, Alfa 164 motor and the jobs a goodun, I haven't got pics but Top Gear road tested one last year . . truly awesome!

a car i'd love to have a replica of: base it on something like a scooby or evo for cheapish 4x4 tunable power or maybe a replica of: always loved the look of the 959, that said a 356 replica would be fine for me

This: or this: From a wrecked but mechanically intact of these: I wouldn't fit in an IMP, but I did build an MPH once nice car but again I don't fin in them either don't have your heart set on one if you're over 5'8" even then it'd be a sqeeze.. I have a nice picture of that Dixon somewhere upside down on top of a friend of mine as well.. And yeah build a vintage Riley special they are awesome but go for a 6 cylinder, they are just wonderfull. In terms of replicas I'm with Jrevillug ford GT40 all the way.. except I think I'd have to have a stroked Cleveland or a 429/460 in the back...

I'd build this - Purely because its my favorite car, and after seeing the real ones race at Le-mans this year, i want one more and more! I'd use this - Not as creative as some on here...but easy-ish to do, the doner's ae plentiful..and its a stunning car when its done!

As I enjoyed reading the book as a child (much better than the film) I'd love to build a replica of this The chassis would be a fairly simple ladder frame with beam axle up front, live axle at the rear. Probably any large 1940s or 1950s car would provide the running gear. The engine, as anyone who read Ian Flemming's book will know, is a supercharged 8 litre V12. A Jaguar V12 is too obvious and not really in keeping, older V12s would be chronic to find parts for so I wonder if the GMC Twin Six is viable. Massive torque at low revs is typical of the early 1930s when the Paragon Panther was supposed to be made.

It'd probably be a lotus europa Type 62 racer for me. Not sure there would be a single donor as such. This one is actually a kit made by Europa Engineering:

And yeah build a vintage Riley special they are awesome but go for a 6 cylinder, they are just wonderfull. I'm 6' 2", so an Imp / MPH has always been out (can't afford one anyway). We already have (well, father does) a wrecked '33 9 that is going to become a special of some sort. Would love a 15/6 or 12/4 engine for it but slightly out of budget, as even just a 12/4 engine for rebuild seems to go for about twice as much as was paid for the entire 9. We have another spare 9 engine with it, but sadly my brother (who is a mechanical engineer) isn't keen on splicing them together into a straight 8 The workshop to build it in is still not complete, so nothing has progressed further than the drawing board / CAD program.
