I've read through this again from the beginning and in the back of my mind I'm thinking 'people are still building amazing cars'. I don't understand where the impression has come from that people aren't building great cars any more. I'm a confused 30psi.
Edit - I can't help but think this is reciprocal. If you want to see amazing cars on the show field of whatever type they may be, then go out to the garage and build one.
Each time I go to Santa Pod, some car catches my eye and I really appreciate the effort that's gone in to something. I almost want to dismantle the car to work out what when in to it. I can stand and stare at a car each time for a few mins just wondering to myself e.g. the first time I saw that VW splitty with the Viper engine in is an example of such an occasion. I had never knew of it before until seeing it go down the strip.

Are we all wearing the Street Machine rose tinted glasses a bit too much these days (said the man with a Mike Collins avatar ;D). Lets look at some examples, shall we? PPC Oct & November '10: the Hudson pickup and T-flite would be so SM front cover cars (yes they're mega-buck American builds but shock horror, SM featured plenty of those) Custom Car, Oct '10: The Zody on the cover would be SM material, so would the '41 pickup. Nov '10: the '57 and the Humber are too. I (obviously) mourn the loss of a great mag, which would still be published had it a better editorial team (sorry CHP, had to be said), but it's hardly a wasteland out there in magazine land UK. Ad in the other Brit new hot rod builds featured and that still seems like a healthy scene considering the economic climate. I'm getting a little confused: When I started this forum my vision of the future was filled with a rebirth of the hey day of British modified cars (as far as I was concerned), and this picture posted on the SD1 thread recently reminded my of exactly the sort of level of build I was hoping we'd be aiming for : Well, the British material mentioned above is hardly BarryBoys SOTW material, isn't it? Or are we not mentioning old, pre-r*tro (for want of a better term) cars anymore?

Street machine was full of cars that were 10-20 years old at the time wasn't it?
So is that not what Max Power/Fast Car/Redline are doing now? The cars are still being built its just the style and base models that have moved on.

there are still amazing cars being built. They just arnt as in your face and pastel as they were bitd... I find it funny that alot of us seem to feel we should comment on it. Considering how many of us are doing sweet FA to actually contribute to the scene... I.e actually build a car rather than just look at em/ leave it in a lockup somewhere and never touch it and then come here and comment on peoples inability to contribute..... ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) But i digress ;D
