gonna put my bits on the chopping block.
They are not "that" bad.
Remember how we all used to slag Novas.... well they are becoming acceptable retro now (also, they are good cars)
Ronal Turbo's would look good, but then that's more money spent.
I rekon dark painted steels and clean and low, kinda a budget euro..

I imagine Chevette/Kadett/Mk1 Cavalier Rostyles will fit. Whether or not they will look any good, I can't decide. I'm not sure about the black tailgate. I think it will just be too much black when viewed from the rear, unless you colour coded the bumpers, but I wouldn't bother doing that. I don't think the side trim removal will reveal any holes. I'm 90% certain they are held on with trim tape. Rostyles? Hmm. HMM. Interesting. I can't visualise it... Photoshop later methinks. The thing with the black tailgate (the bottom bit, not the bit near the roof unless that goes black too) is that because it's got no pillars around the back screen, I think it'll hide some of the roundness of the back and accentuate the more vertical rear compared to the three-door. Again, photoshop will prove it or not I reckon. Bumpers will stay as they are.

I'm just intregued to know how 'man mountain' DW is gonna fit in one!!! My missus used to have one & I could never get the seat far enough back or low enough down to avoid conflict with the steering wheel / dashboard / legs... and I'm not a large person by any stretch of the imagination. The one we had was the horrible 3-cylinder lawnmower jobs though... higher spec ones may be different for all i know.

AWSOME! ... well its so not-awsome it is!!! ;D It would be one mighty great coup' If you pull this one off
I've got loads of great ideas (which have come from looking at my Dad's equally 'girly' 5 door corsa) However alot of them I think will cost money you don't really want to spend on this project.
I reckon a set of black 6 x 14" Golf Steel wheels would look ace with 185-50-14 rubber - the VW wheels are 35ish offset as opposed to the 49mm of the std Corsa wheels giving the sticky out look you require - spacer might help things at the back.
It is imperetive that to pull off the look the car needs to be LOW Chopping the springs in half should achieve this ;D
The tailpipe can be hidden with a drooping exit from behind the bumper
A Laguna front splitter in place of the flat plastic original will help give the appearance of it being lower at the front but is subtle enough not to be obvious.
De-bump stripping & badging is a must - this should be made easier by slowly pulling them off whilst using a hairdrier to soften the glue of the tape - I don't think you'll be left with any holes at all
Then its just a case of adding stickers/vinyl trim to taste - oh and I think the whole car would look fresher if the bumpers are painted satin black but I do think it would look tacky if you painted any other body panels Matt or Satin black

I think cleaning it to within an inch of its life is the only way to go with this car... shave all unnecessary trim off, some deep dished steelies, that kinda thing. This purchase is on a par with my Hyundai Pony-and-trap I reckon! ;D But hey, it'll get you about. As cc said, Novas have entered the Retro bracket now, BUT I think we've got a while to go before the Corsa follows suit - still too many nasty versions driving about.

Nick! I've done THOUSANDS of miles in my ex's 3 cylinder Corsa, I fit OK DerbyDan - interesting ideas BB - yeah... Thing is, I can't face driving a blandmobile stock one, and I can't abide chav chariots either. So I want to prove you CAN be different, think outside the box -just have to think a bit harder than normal

you should definatly modify it without question. Your going to have to drive it about and for the sake of £50 -100 on cheap mods you could enjoy it and make a statement. I think Derby Dan has the vision. What sort of offsets are E30 BMW bbs type replica jobys ( the 14"'s that no one wants) could work painted black?! i like the chequered bonned idea. don't mess about blowing ££ on springs - cut the stock springs it will ride like wibblepoo but as long as the dampers last it will be woth it, ultra lowness will make this a winner. Possibly shave the handles/locks but leave the drivers so you don't have to fork out on solenoids? red oxide/nato/satin black could all work. Tint the headlamps yellow? Opel badges and a german flag on the roof? German sign writing on the door and rat look it. IT NEEDS DOING HARD!!!!!

Darren - didn't realise your sis was off to the States, whereabouts has she gone to? Good news on getting the Corsa cheap though, bonus! Just don't let your Jonathan near the engine or he'll have the standard bits off a massive carb on there in no time negating any economy gains from having the car! ;D Not sure what mods to do to it really, as you know I'm not much for visual mods but I would say this car definitely needs some attention. I'd probably go for subtle 'less is more', ie. low, bigger steel wheels, less trim & badges and definitely no 'big bore' exhaust! I wouldn't do anything that's not easily reversible though if you're thinking of selling it on once the Golf is roadworthy again, would think it'd be easier to sell a standard car? Good luck, probably see you and the new car at some point anyway, maybe in my Mk1 if it passes the MOT next week (fingers crossed)!

Darren - didn't realise your sis was off to the States, whereabouts has she gone to? Philadelphia somewhere No chance of that ! hah hah! No exhaust for sure. It's boomy enough as it is, and I need quiet in the mornings on the way to work Yeah... The paint is knackered on it anyway - it's about four different shades of red. If I really wanted to sell it on as stock, I'd be wanting to blow over the roof anyway, and I might use a spare bonnet/tailgate for modifying. w00t! FINGERS CROSSED!

It'd be a bit like that beige wicker Mk2 Golf - beetle rims on a later car. Quite a contrast. Hmmmmmmmmm I'll see what the scrapyards have when I get chance to go Too dear for me - gonna have to be secondhand. Can you cut the rear springs anyway? They are those pigtail short ones aren't they?

I'd be checking ebay for E21 BMW wheels (the 13" x-wires or '02 type steels) or Chevette/Manta alloys (there's usually a couple of sets of Compomotives about). How about P-slots? If you go low enough then the tucked in look would work.

I'm SURE I've got 5 of those somewhere I was thinking about painting them black AGES ago, they need a refurb and I thought it might make a temporary change til I get them done. Now I know it's right THAT RX-7 IS an influence actually. In my head, I see it as I describe, low and streetracery, checks and satin and pinstripes, parked in a location that's similar to THOSE pics, that I know in Liverpool, with one door open

De-trimmed, whole car satin black (no graphic, checkerboards etc). Wide steels with either chrome caps (how about red steels behind these?) or moon disks. Lowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww !!!!!!!!!!!!!
