OK OK. Don't get excited. It's not retro. It's not interesting. But it DOES have potential. And it was cheap. VERRRY cheap. Ready? It was cheaper than getting the Golf on the road right now, and has MOT and tax. And I need wheels for work. So. Here's what I'm thinking: Low, obviously. How much for secondhand springs, and how low is sensible? What wider steelies will bolt on? With some dish? Off something RWD? That I can get CHEAP from a scrappers? I'm thinking satin black bonnet and tailgate. and pinstriping across the front of the bonnet and around the rear number plate. Black checks on the roof, but I'm not sure cos of the sunroof? Maybe satin all over to go with the bonnet and tailgate? Anyone want to 'shop some ideas? Here's what I'm NOT thinking: Lexus lights Neons Tribal Graphics Fox Racing alloys ;D

I'd de-badge it and take the stripe off the side, go for the obvious slammage, and wheel-wise, what about the steels from a 2.0 cavalier (mk3?) similar age to the corsa. Think they are quite wide, with a bit of dish, and available in any decent scrappy. Wheels painted black.

I wanted a Micra, yeah, but this was my sisters car and she emigrated to America this morning. You can't buy a non-scrapyard Micra for what I'm paying for this ;D I'd de-badge it and take the stripe off the side, go for the obvious slammage, and wheel-wise, what about the steels from a 2.0 cavalier (mk3?) similar age to the corsa. Think they are quite wide, with a bit of dish, and available in any decent scrappy. Wheels painted black. badges will go ASAP. As will the wheel trims. Do the side strips peel off? Or will there be trim holes? OOH Cav rims hadn't thought of that. Yeah, black fo' sho'. I was wondering if chrome hubcaps might go on, like domed Beetle ones or something, but I dunno?

You can get that nice matt black look cheaply by using 1/2 litre of unleaded and a match...
;D
Would it be better to leave it alone and use the money saved for a more worthwhile project?

But I'm not the sort of person to leave something like that alone This is Retro-rides! EVERYTHING is worthwhile I like the idea of turning something that 99.99% of people can't see the potential in, that can't see past the "chav" tag, into something interesting. On a VERY cheap budget. Prove that you CAN "polish a turd" ;D Like our man with the lowrider Nova Saloon (sorry! brain everywhere today, can't remember who), only with less work involved ;D

I've gotta admit i'm a bit gutted you didn't get the Micra, specially after the fuss on VZI! This is a super challenge though i love it, we will really enjoy the irony of sorting this since we are only just getting the Nova thing!
Well i like the Cav steelies idea. First thoughts are euro, bit obvious but it'd work. De clutter and wide 13's. I've never thought about doing a 5dr corsa so i'll sleep on this one, Brill! fantastic work. Does VZI know? ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Save for the BA Barkas Mr.W BA won't be here til '07 at the earliest, unless something major happens I can find £50 for some satin paint, and more soon for cheap wheels and secondhand springs. Plus, wheels and springs can be sold on when I've finished with it, recovering some of the cost. I need to find money for insurance, tax and the MOT for the Golf. This is the cheapest way I can get to work, earn the money for that, AND have something throwaway to play with. I ain't driving a stock Corsa 1.2 around til the Golf is sorted... No way... ;D

Not sure on the side strips, if there are holes might be better to leave them on, unless you're going to paint it a matt colour too, then a bit of Isopon P40 and P38 and a slap of paint would be quick and relativly cheap to do. The cav wheels should be next to nothing too. i'm sure chrome hubcaps would go on them too.

Keep the badges...add a few extra letters to them. SWING...ER SWINGER...... CORSA ...going with an international theme we can add " inter" as in INTERCORSA....

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

You'll have to matt black or camoflage it. If you don't it'll probably (not definitely) be impossible to make it look like anything except a chav wagon IMO.

I imagine Chevette/Kadett/Mk1 Cavalier Rostyles will fit. Whether or not they will look any good, I can't decide.
I'm not sure about the black tailgate. I think it will just be too much black when viewed from the rear, unless you colour coded the bumpers, but I wouldn't bother doing that.
I don't think the side trim removal will reveal any holes. I'm 90% certain they are held on with trim tape.
