I was always very careful choosing women. I am aware of the major problems and heart ache that can be caused. I ended up with the perfect lady and the unsuspected car became the curse word. What I have is the worst love/hate car relationship there has ever been.
She (944) spends all my money, makes me sad a lot of the time, but I find it difficult to let go because of the good times.
I'm going to the garage now to show her pictures of 944s being broken, this may scare her into behaving.

Stick with it, as some of us have historically been less careful about choosing our women than cars, and believe me the money you've put into your 944 is nothing compared to what the female of the species has cost me over the years!
I had a similar relationship with a MK1 XR2 years ago and I made the mistake of cutting my losses (mainly due to the influence of a woman it has to be said!)and I've regretted it ever since.
I also regret spending so much time and effort making my perfect version of a Yamaha RD350LC only to decide that something newer and 'more reliable' was what I needed. I then found that it wasn't, and I missed the holed pistons and garden shed rebuilds, the smell of quality two stroke oil and the adrenaline hit when it came on the power. It wasn't the quickest or best handling thing on two wheels, but part of me went with it when it left.
Sometimes the journey is what ultimately makes the destination worthwhile and in the case of this car; would it be the same if you'd simply bought a standard 944 Turbo and altered it to your taste? Personally I doubt it and despondent as you seem to be at the moment; it seems to have become part of you and I have a suspicion that you'd regret it if you didn't make it work.........

I've been through the same with my MR2. Started with a bog standard UK na and is now running 125hp more than it came out of the factory with due to a turbo engine transplant, highly uprated suspension, different interior and a considerable collection of rare and light wheels.
It is very fast, a bit uncomfortable, expensive to keep and starting to show it's age. It always needs attention in winter only and Toyota used rubbish bolts underneath that shear when disturbed.
However, one great summers drive is enough to remind me each time why I could never sell it.
Don't ever sell yours, you've spent too much on it emotionally and if it went you would always regret it. Plus it's epic!

My problem has always been that whenever I find a good one I always end up neglecting and abusing them both cars and women that is lol! The good thing with cars is when they p1ss you off you can just walk away and leave them locked up in the garage, ive tried doing the same with my girlfriend and shes not my girlfriend anymore!!

I have a mistress called 911 in the garage. I saw her 650 times last year and loved every mile. Every time I get inside her she drives me wild and then input her in the garage. I want to leave her but like your 944 to quote a song 'I might as well face it I'm addicted to love'
A mistress is an expensive indulgence but rewarding!
P. s I need a good 968 in my life, any ideas?

I went to check my old engine, bores are good.
I can use this block, new rings, new shells the forged rods and make a good very bottom end. And then fit my rebuilt head on that. And then fit brand new 55lb injectors. Along with the new belt kit and water pump. This would be like a new engine. Will cost some £ to do, but it should be reliable again.
Just need some enthusiasm.

There is a delay which is not winter. I'm thinking it would be a waste to go through the pain of another build without upgrading - making it more worth it. According to linsey racing, boost at 1.5 bar with the bits it had could be around 350hp at the crank. I may as well go to the next stage to make the rebuild worth while. This is larger turbo, 3" exhaust, and lose the AFM. Larger turbo - I will find something on Ebay I expect Exhaust - I will fab my own, Lose the AFM - I will fit a map sensor and convert the AFM signal and get it re-mapped. Here is a nice picture of it when it was in a better mood.

Next step rebuild certainly gets my vote. I think this is just one of those cars that has continued to evolve in your ownership, no matter what the initial reason has been. The aesthetics are about as good as they're going to get, so that only leaves mechanical mods/improvements! 400+ brake sounds like a great plan.

As the good weather is on its way, it seemed a good idea to sort it out, it has stood since November when I bought the Z4 and to be honest I had had enough and didn't mind it sitting and rotting for 6 months. Last week I got in the mood and removed the Engine with its cracked block. I stripped it down and proceeded to look for a decent block to start building up. The move forward was sparked as I found a non leaking steering rack, lines and pump on a breaker at work. I removed the RARST forged conrods from the old engine. Here you cen see the difference between these and the cast rods. The difference isn't as clear in this picture as it could be. I must say, gaskets, rings and bearings are getting not only expensive but difficult to get hold of, I waited 2 weeks for the piston rings from Germany.
