Done mr porsche. Update, got a rear cage. Not bolted in, but I trial fitted it to see how it fits before I paint it . Not sure what colour but I'm torn on wether to do it original satin black, or the calipers and cage a lairy colour.. Anyway, trial fit was snug- The story is this is the rear part of a genuine porsche cage...maybe. I can't sort it yet as i have been sent to Koln to collect a gearbox.

Cage is a nice addition. Plan to do the same in MIB eventually.

This has always been the biggest gripe for me and the 944. Its a fantastic looking car (now retro), its well balanced and has a nice interior. BUT - the 4 pot makes a frugal sound, the power output is ok, but not stunning ( and i have the 220 bhp turbo). The only way forward is to put a Chevvy LS-1 into one of these? But imho, Dr Porsche himself would turn in his grave.
What about a 928? You can get manual cars if you look hard? The last GT and GTS editions are (to use a retro phrase) Lush !

Rav, don't worry mate - He's already doing somersaults due to that abortion AKA the Cayenne (and other watercooled heresey) I reckon he would bless us 944 "modders" Gav, its your own fault fella, you got rid of the "over tensioned balance belt fake supercharger capability". You didn't even pay the price for the Lindsay Racing delete kit! I hope you get oil leaks lolz BTW, did you buy that goodness that you told me about? I'm guessing yes? If so then what are you gonna do about the box? As you know, the 5Y will get spat out within seconds - so they say? Just installed Kam's 2.7 so will be doing dogleg tests in the comming weeks - check out the link for specs 'n' coolness. www.gt40s.com/forum/gt40-tech-powertrain-transaxles/23996-g31-transaxles-audi-016-083-transaxles-pete-tinucci.html

hahahah!
Rav, I'm keeping it a 4, just faster!
Dave the guy changed his mind about selling it! I think he was just wanting people to want..
I bought an audi 80 TDI estate yesterday, for a daily and long trips ect.. 55mpg, 4 doors and space in the back - this fills the gaps of the 944. I'm going to spend some time on the audi ie deep dish BBS, drop, momo steering wheel ect... Then I'm going to hit the 944 hard as I can now take it off the road and do engine work.
BTW dave, you need an audi 80 TDI- lovely car & audi 80 is porsche 944s uncle.

Looking good, as ever. I would still love a 944 one day although I've been checking out 968CS's lately too.

Loved this car since I saw it at Stanceworks but only just found this thread and read the whole thing, great work.
Met you at Edition38 this year, was talking to you about about the copycat.

Hey Sumprocker, there's a small picture of your 944 @ Half-day heroes in this months Retro Cars magazine. Look on page 102. It doesn't look that low in the picture as it does on here though.
I took that kick you gave me on my 944 thread and had a go at changing the engine. (Well, I managed to remove the old one). I'm thinking of lowering mine abit at front before I get it back on the road too.

Thanks porsche, car was just dumped in the corner and the front n/s wheel was in a drain making the rear o/s like a landrover! The same angle was in PVW but it sat well.
Glad your doing it, you have done the worst of it, all downhill from here.. There are some MO30 coilovers on Ebay for £270 which is fair.

man - some schweet pics of your '44 - you've got that stance about perfect now. I'm really envious but inspired!
How's the car feel with the balance shaft delete? Is it noticeably rougher running and what about cruising on the motorway or at the lights?

As promised, a little more poke... So.. Turbo engine transplant? the best deals ive seen are £1400 to 1800 for an engine pack on a pallet - no thanks. But don't forget the 2.5 n/a is the engine the Turbo was based on, so how hard can it be to "boost" it? Its proved much cheaper to collect the parts that make the difference. 1st, a set of turbo pistons, then flywheel & clutch (comming, thanks Dave) Also needed to complete the bottom end was- This turbo sump (you don't need the sump, but it had the return bolted on, which you do need) Then the top end parts (blowy stuff) Exhaust manifold- Which joins to the crossover pipe (notice external wastegate flange) I hope to get a wastegate this weekend. The above pipes to this K26/6 turbo Notice its complete with downpipe, engine mount, & coolant pipes That comletes the sucky/blowy stuff minus exhaust system and an oil feed pipe for the turbo. Anyway, a turbo inlet manifold was required to clear the turbo, and is colmpete with tps and throttle body. That completes the big stuff, I can make boost pipes and Dave has loom and ECU so plan is to get it running as a standard 220 (will be rapid with the N/A gearbox, but its life will be short) then when issues are ironed out I will give it more boost and a chip set with hopes of 290hp. The car already has turbo driveshafts fitted. Another reason for going this route is that the tuning potential is endless, 300hp is a modest state of tune. The cars running bigger turbo/injectors/cooler ect are over 400hp. Though while I have the n/a box I will stay around the 300 i think.
