So following the santana I realised just how much I missed my old wagon, so the mission was set, find another B3 Passat wagon After a brief look, and advert popped up, basically saying a passat estate, B3 was up for sale at scrap value, a little shabby, but had potential anyway, a deal was done, I boarded a train and 3 hours later I arrived, handed over some pictures of the queen for a tax n tested wagon, jumped in and drove home the drive home was good, but I knew I'd have a lot of things to sort.. anyway, here she is, as usual, swmbo names all our vehicles, so meet Valery.. As you can see, she looks tidy enough - interior was fairly clean, only real downside was the hole in the sill and that the white paint hadnt been properly washed for about 10-15 years

we had about 7 weeks before the MOT was due in that time I sold the santana and picked up another wagon as a project (long term - details to come later) The clutch went and we had a few issues to sort so up came a list of things to do, now I'm not known to have oily fingers so attempting most on my own and taking my time was paramount.. i set about.. first up, full service and cam belt.. Thanks to a few handy pointers over facebook, job was done.. Cam belt change - (side of the road) then the clutch went, spoke to a few peopel and we deemed it to be the clutch cylinder, so sourced a new slave cylinder and set about changing that, again, side of road, also took the chance to change plugs and rocker gasket then, the brakes, so fitted new brake pads all round, and a full bleed on the whole system as the old fluid was like honey - whilst there also changed the CV Boot following the sale of the santana, the wheels got fitted and changed the sump gasket in the rain on the drive under a gazebo..

Then the dreaded MOT time was looming, quick chat with my neighbour and he took her away for the day, popped back later with the hole ground back and plated over, sill was looking good..
So quick visual, all looked fine, so popped in for MOT
FAILED
rear brake performance was 1 point off a pass..
So took it home, took off the pads, cleaned everything up and adjusted the cable, took back down and it passed..
few advisories but they can get looked at in time..
so at this point (not including the wheels) the spend was still under 500 so was well happy with that...

So with the fresh MOT under my belt, and a little brucie from work, plus a little photoshopping, it was decided that a slam was a must quick emailt o hottuning and £195 later, a set of coilies were on there way.. no arguments from anyone I know there.. So yesterday morning, first attempt at doing any of thi myself, I set about re-newing the top mounts and fitting coilies good job I decided to order new top mounts as the old ones were proper foooooked so fronts on, I took for a little spin (and to turn car round so I could do rears easier) couldnt resist a RAKE shot

Looks pretty damn good to me!
D'ya fancy doing some more lace painting on this one then? I'd look great with a satin effect on the roof.

the other wagon I've got might be getting some..
as the sig says, 1 is use n abuse, well kind of anyway) is this one.. - the other is project sled, but thats slow progress so no thread yet, but may be better suited for lace - they'll be like chalk n cheese when its done

Nice work Steve and some cracking pics too.
I actually prefer this to the Slamtana! The B3 shape is rather nice and the white suits it so much. Good choice, good save.
You have perfectly proved Ian's formula of; (car+wheels)-rideheight=WIN
Is this a diesel? Your car has got me thinking of B3's as my next practical 'daily' but I'd probably want a diesel because I'm going to be needing some GR8 4 MPG'z.
I'll be watching this with interest.

Cheers bruce..
kept it quiet before posting up this time, as what i paid for it, coudl have easily been a breaker..
Its not a diesel, its the 1.8 digi engine (mk2 goof GTI) and is doing 35-40 mpgs on the commute - diesels good for 55-60 especially fi you can find the 1.6 TD, they've been known to rack up 350k easily and still return 60mpg..
as to doing much more, well just cut back the paint, polish up and cruise, use and abuse..
As said to you at the gatheirng, i'd just won another on ebay and thats a longer term project with a 16v motor, 2 seats, matt paint etc etc etc - details to follow tho
to me tho, B3's are the best looking (and value) passat out there, i had one of these long before the santana, but couldnt resist going back to them.. love em

Good choice with the ATS's, first wheels i had on mine. What would look even better is if you could pick up a pair of deeper dished for the rear, they do come up occasionally.
looking good Steve, car not you ;D

Deeper dish and 9's wont work for me at this height, these sit nicely, the tyres clear the coils and only just clear the arches, if i go wider then it'll be like my old one and have to raise it up a bit - i'm staying low and tucked, if anything I'd like 6j fronts instead of 7

I like the sound of that 6's up front would be awesome. On mine i had skinnier tyres upfront so it sort of gave the impression of narrower wheels

on my last wagon i ran porsche D90's, it was lower than this up front.
i had 8's on the rears with 20mm adaptors and 6's on the fronts with 15mm adaptors, stance was was wicked and was running 195/40/16 up front and 215/40/16 out back..
i'd liek a similar stance, but not sure if cups come in 6's or even keep 7's with a lower ET
the B3 does look a lot better with tuck rather than poke up front imo
