So, thought I'd do an update! All the bits we'd ordered finally arrived. Shiny So last weekend we knuckled down and got the engine back in. All went well, until we tried to get the engine mounts lined back up! You can see why it might have been a problem Finally after much faffing around it was done Fired up pretty much straightaway, so really chuffed. Sounds a lot smoother as well, though it definitely needs a tune up before the next long run to the Gathering! Off to the garage for an MOT as it was now out. All good, although it does seem to have picked up a bit of a vibration/rumble at about 2.5k, I think I need to just check the alignment on prop, gearbox and engine properly just to make sure it's not off! Got through the MOT after a couple of tweaks to the brakes, so nothing major, so happy with that! On the way home I noticed that the oil pressure was dropping and the gauge was all over the place thought it wise to pull over and the oil pipe for the pressure gauge was leaking! TBH I had a feeling it wasn't up to the task when I refitted it. I was only 6 miles from home but why risk it when you pay a man a load of money to give you a lift when this happens? Back in the garage now, I've ordered a new pipe so I'll get that fitted and away we go. Missed the 8 Ball meet as well

Done a few little jobs, fitted a new oill pressure gauge pipe and because it was always a lazy starter I've also renewed the positive cable from the battery with something a bit more heavy duty, seems to have made a difference, as the engine certainly spins over a lot quicker. Tidied up the boot as well, I'll throw some pics up later on. Happy days

Indeed they are mate! Wish it still had the track tyres on though, the ones on it at the moment are rubbish I have to say though that I would have loved to have had this engine and gearbox in my old Taunus. Was always a great car to drive

Was always a great car to drive The Taunus is an underrated car really. It hugs the road with a few mods In this video featuring my Taunus, I have the Stock 2l 105hp from an 82 Cortina/Taunus, and a guy in a Celica GT4 Trubo is struggling with keeping up with me in the bends Can I ask where you got that inlet manifold plate by any chance? I was thinking on running my RS2k with bike carbs.

Good old eBay! Haven't done anything with it yet! Lack of motivation, work and too much other stuff to do mean this is way down the priority list! (Even though I said it was a Christmas present for my wife (as its her car) last year!)

Good to see you still going at this car. It does have a great combination of mods and originality.

Thanks Chas, TBH it doesn't need anything, it just sits in the garage waiting patiently for a run out. Going into storage soon as we're going away and it will get a few jobs done while it's there like getting the door pins replaced and some little bodywork repairs. It's all good though and I love it ;D

Afraid not mate, it came with it fitted. I'm pretty sure they need to be bored out although I'm sure you could buy one straight from Burton, but it wouldn't be cheap Actually, nope just had a look and I can't see that they still do them! I would think there will be ones for sale though as so many people have used the Zetec or Duratec to upgrade. That's my plan in the future (After the vans finished..... )

Blimey! An update! Well, the Escort came out of storage in time for RRG 13, but those of you who were there will know that it didn't make it there. No particular reason, I just used my daily instead! I've been concentrating on the van, but have taken it to my regular local meet which just happens to be at me local pub I'll upload some pictures when I can find them! It's now sitting under its cover waiting for a dry day to go for a thrash! Definitely want to get more use out of it next year!
