Well this is awkward!! So, I loved this car, but I slowly fell out of love with it. Typically, I got it working great, tuned up and then decided that it had to. Someone posted on one of the Facebook groups I’m on asking if anyone wanted to swap their Mk2 for their Mk1 XR2. Well, I’ve never had a Mk1 but used to borrow mates SuperSport and the Mk2’s were all the rage when I served in Germany so we thought why not. Let someone else get some use out of the Escort. Then lockdown came along
Anyway, fast forward into June and I took the plunge and drove the Escort up to Peterborough services to do a swap. It was loud, rattly and I had a constant fear that it would breakdown! No idea why, it’s only broken down on me once! And there it was. First time I’d seen it in the flesh and it was as good as the seller had told me it was. Driving back was such a different experience, light steering (not powered, just light!) quiet and just purred along at 80. I don’t miss the Escort, and now I have a car that I’m happy to run to the shops in. It needs some bits to bring it alive, but no rush and lets face it, this years not exactly been memorable for the shows and trips!!
