Its amazing how rare hunters are. I often look on ebay to see how much they are going for in case i fancy one in future and there's never any for sale or on completed listings... What about this one for a project? www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C576747

Its almost worth buying for the panels alone as replacements are pretty scarce! I just drove a 400 mile round trip to pick up a rear quarter after some snow skidding injuries to mine!

We are now back after a short break (750 miles @ max 60 mph via Scottish borders, The Lakes, South Wales, a top-secret army camp near Sailbury Plains and deepest darkest Yorkshire ) and after unpacking our latest bargain buys (including large & small chunks from a Hunter that was being broken and a retro joblot from a house clearance )... we haz From memory, we got a NOS steel wing ( to match the other NOS steel wing we already have in stock ), used bonnet in great condition (so I have a spare to "experiment" with ), 2-speed wiper motor & switches (posh or what ), heater (hopefully hot - as opposed to the one in the car ), and *lots* of shiney bits that may be getting fitted as/when I get around to it. The 16ft canoes were collected at the same time but we are not planning to use them as part of the Hunter project

"The 16ft canoes were collected at the same time but we are not planning to use them as part of the Hunter project " ^^^ And why not, might I ask? I reckon an old skool roofrack on that Hunter with the canoes on would look cool at shows Pete....

Oh yes James, top idea!!! Could keep lots of beer in a pair of 16ft canoes!!!

Things are afoot So far this week we've fitted / upgraded / fixed... a *hot* heater with 2-speed motor. Nice (& toasty) a 2-speed windscreen wiper motor and made up a rear wiper kit ( the wiper motor was collected last week, wiper arm from stock, and the NOS rear blade came from Speedy Spares a while ago)

Time for a couple of quick updates, and credit to some local guys After blowing a heater hose and headgasket, I was very happy that a local engineering place managed to rush through a head skim and valve grind at a Retro-friendly price Top marks to Rosamond Rebore Service, Tel: 01670 353287 Unit 19, Grasmere Way, Blyth, Northumberland, NE24 4RRI also managed to find some time to raid a local breakers, it was good to find somewhere that was happy letting me hunt for anything I could make fit Thanks & brownie points to S.P & C Morgan Auto Salvage, Weetslade Industrial Estate Great, North Tyneside, NE23 7PSA new made-to-measure forced-to-fit tailgate rubber for pennies has to be good news! Much better & quieter than the snapped old one that has been dropping off in pieces More to follow - hopefully soon...

FTF is a new acronym we must adopt to describe custom parts like that tailgate seal.

Woo updates! I'll make a note of those guys in Blyth; my local engine place is good for parts but their machining prices reflect that they're the only place for 20-odd miles :/ *n

We got some shiney bitz I've wanted over-riders since I got the car (even picked up some MGB ones at RRG13 but the curved shape didn't suit the boxy Hunter), I recently got some proper Hunter ones - which even came with a proper bumper (as opposed to the original which seemed to have shrunk in the rain )

Still love this thread, this is exactly how people would have motored in the 70s. I.e. buy, maintain, lightly modify to improve, use often.
Not buy, fit c20xe, stupid wheels, garish paint, leave in garage for most the year. Mainly because the c20xe didnt exist but i'm sure you see where i'm going.

Pete, that has made my evening seeing the old wagon still going strong. It did make me laugh you fitting a rear wiper, as I remember ripping the old one out of the tailgate!
Steel wings are a touch of class for the old girl, cant wait to see it in the flesh again

Pete I think that's a rear bumper from a base model saloon that was on the front? Certainly my base model Hunter had a bumper like that.

Good thinking but I've just checked and it won't fit the rear (mounting holes are on top not underneath, it has indicator cutouts but none needed, and it's a few inches too narrow), shame Thanks for the idea, maybe it's a front to match the rear that was on yours
