Kind of goofing around here, but I think it works. Austin 1100 estate - raked the screen, chopped the top and extended the front and rear wings to make a mini-Nomad. Damn that's good. Really doesn't need a thing, such a good overall shape, nice one.👌

That might work with a trabant estate, too.

It's sometimes more interesting to try and fix the ugly duckling type cars, so here (with no offence intended to any Landcrab owners) is an Austin 1800 as a coupe. This is the sort of thing Peugeot were good at, splashing nice coupes and convertibles off their base model cars. So with that in mind, I didn't change the wheelbase of any other architecture, aside from losing a couple of the doors and messing with the roof line, which is now more curved. The front and rear glass is stock, but laid down. Still probably not what you'd call 'stunning'. This was bugging me, so i had another shot at it...though I'd rank this as totally unbuildable (shortened the body, changed the wheelbase, stretched the boot lid....) to end up with something that isn't exactly sex on wheels.

But the Landcrab did lead me to wonder about shortening the Routemaster-like wheelbase of the Austin 3 litre to make a GT. I also raked the screens to get the roof a little lower, but that was about it. Interesting to ponder if Leyland could have stuck a Jag V12 or Rover V8 in it and badged it as a Riley.

A40 Farina into a coupe. MG Midget boot lid and surround metalwork. Not sure about the roof, but maybe Morris Minor or Beetle would work.

And Wolseley 1500 coupe. Not the first time I tried this, but I'm pretty happy with this one. Inexplicably difficult to get right.

You're actually bloody good at this. Love the a40 coupe, makes the car look so much bigger. The 3 litre is ok but the arches look like they are in the wrong place and the long bonnet looks even longer.
Do a maxi next.
Please. 😁

I sometimes wonder if it's a mistake to include the original pics. What on earth can I do with a Maxi?

Anything that hasn't already been done, which to be fair means lots, because I don't think anyone's ever done anything extensive with a maxi. See how the shortened 2dr works?

See how the shortened 2dr works? Here you go, since you double dared me, I was legally obliged to try and fix the Maxi. So it's not really anything that anyone would probably try and build, but more of a 'what if'. Had Austin decided to go rallying with the Maxi or even gone totally mental and made a coupe version (you know, the sort of thing that every other car manufacturer does) then just maybe they'd have ended up with something like this. The car is more or less the same length, but the wheelbase is shortened. Everything from the bulkhead forwards is stock (aside from a couple of bits of artistic license. Anyone want to guess the inspiration?

It certainly looks Italian. Where do you get your original photos from ? The first question I seem to end up asking myself is 'how would the Italians have done this?' Just image search. Set the desired size to Wallpaper or Large.
