Hello everyone, great site! i've spent the last two days lurking around and reading right through the forum, very interesting indeed I thought i would share some pics of my daily ride. It's powered by a 1.1 litre petrol lump that is surprisingly lively. I had some mad ideas of 5 turbo engine transplants but i'll be staying with the stock engine for reliability. A picture of the interior after i fitted some renault 21 turbo seats today, god these are comfy! I sourced these from ebay along with a complete engine for the measly sum of £67, gotta love ebay. The standard 21 turbos come with leather and the cloth trim was an optional extra that had to be specified, so i guess they are quite rare. The plastic side strips are coming off and a set of alloys are on the list, not quite sure which ones to go for? The bonnet will be painted green or i was toying with the idea of painting the whole van in a nice shade of matt grey. Not bad for £125 taxed and mot'd, 2 previous owners and showing 80k on the clock. Some mods planned, any suggestions welcome

Slammed on red steels, satin black, with 'Pierre's Hot Rod Services' signwriting... ;D Welcome to the madhouse, BTW
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Welcome! Excellent choice of transport - an R5 Turbo lump would be a right lark in that! Never seen a modded Renner 5 van before - rollered-on matt black paint job would be cool as. What wheel PCD are those cars? Are they 3-stud? A set of original phase 1 Turbo alloys would rock!

The potential of a very special van, still looks special though and the seats look comfy, what was that? 21 turbo engine transplant?!
Didn't these vans have a van name? 'Extra'?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I travelled through France in one of these when I was hitching round Europe - the guy drove like a nutter and didn't speak a word of English (I don't speak much French). Nippy little things! R21 Turbo lump?! Mmmmm-hmmmm. That'd be insane.

Does it have the bizarre flappy roof device?
(presumably for carrying extra-long baguettes home from the boulangerie?)

21 turbo lump wont be easy as the 21T has a longitudinal engine and your van has a transverse job.
Has your engine got a gearbox with it? The boxes are worth good money.

Thanks again for the warm welcome I'm based in Leiston ScrapingScrap, out and about most days around Ipswich A12/A14 vicinity - normally with a queue of traffic behind me I also had some mad ideas with the 21 turbo lump but i don't think it would be possible, pity! The chap i bought the lump from only bought the car for the gearbox to go into some kit car project he was building. I bought the lump for spares, got a black 21 turbo on a G plate. I did however see one other modded R5 van, it was on ebay not that long ago, complete with a turbo conversion! Old auction clicky!

There was a fella at last years RCS with a R5 van that was pottering around everywhere... and then he'd dump the throttle and the thing would light up its tyres, followed by dump valve action a go-go. STOOOSHHHH! Cool as f00k.
And I'm with them... matt black with red steelies. I believe it may be a by-law in some parts of this land.
