hmm, if you want a 2ltr Turbo lump into a 5, Volvo 480 Turbo lump is the only way it can be done easily IIRC.
I think the 1700 engine's from the 5GTX's are unsuitable for turbo'ing cos they run quite high compression and put a tubby on them and they'll melt pistons..., and of course the 5 Turbo Engine is only a piddly little 1400.

Ooh nice 21 Turbo . tenman - good thinking on the Volvo 480 front, I forgot they were Renault related. 480 Turbo powered R5 Van.... That'd be a real flyer.

Welcome to the site, those are some pretty nice motors there, both getting quite rare these days as well. I like the idea of making a sleepr out of the little 5 van, what about the engine from a modern Clio or something, those are transverse and you'd probably find a crashed sporty Clio in a scrappy to donate the enigne and possibly gearbox, and the modern fuel injected engine would give you a nice little increase in power.

Lovely van, great base
I reckon nato green, slammed over black steelies with big yellow radiation symbols on the side and something like "Weapons test support vehicle" (in french) stencilled on the side, possibly with a french flag crossing a french polynesian flag (where they did the testing) on the door.
Add a couple of green neons lighting up the vents for the full nuke-look

Some great ideas flowing, nuke look sounds excellent. Loving the thought of a modern lump sleeper Revolution 9 there's a Ren/Pug breakers yard a couple of miles from here might have a mooch over there tomorrow and make a few enquiries.
Bodywise i'm leaning towards matt black, slammed of course and maybe some dished allys with black centres. Where's the best place to get the paint and how much would you need roughly? ta.

The PSA only breakers sounds ideal, as I said I'm sure you'll be able to find a reasonably sporty Clio or similar that could give up an engine and box, even if it's only a little 1400 or 1600 with fuel injection you could get some useful extra juice out of it. You might want to tinker with the brakes while you're at it mind, I don't know what R5 van brakes are like, but so modern Clios have similar hubs etc, if so they might be a good source of brakes as well?

I remember that van at RCS last year, pretty unassuming untill it was opened up! That van has a lot of potential patty, could do with some hitting with the stick That piddly little 1400 is good for 400bhp+ proven, small engines can make lots of power, its the best way! I hope that R21 turbo isnt going to be broken, it looks minty. J

Drooling over the eurocup monster blownimp Nooooo way my 21 is gonna be broke, it's sad to see how many of these rare old beasts are scavanged mainly for the gearboxes. Van does indeed need a proper hiding with 'the stick' working on it.... I'm not far from you Daveyboy, seen a couple of nice 21's in and around Ipswich.

Welcome! Excellent choice of transport - an R5 Turbo lump would be a right lark in that! Never seen a modded Renner 5 van before - rollered-on matt black paint job would be cool as. What wheel PCD are those cars? Are they 3-stud? A set of original phase 1 Turbo alloys would rock! There was one round here in the summer running a Turbo lump, looked standard other than the R5GT wheels.

J hehe, I know for a 1400 lump the R5 one's are very strong, mine went up in flames on my drive though, (a very common occurance), mind you it was running 19psi... on standard internals .. I'd never have considered taking my S14 over 17-18psi on standard internals and not over 14psi without a decent thicker headgasket
