if u get stuck 195/45s will go on with a medium stretch, or do you want to have a more drag look tyre. rims look great how long did they take you to make?

TBH I'm thinking of a 215 size, but the 205s on the front and the 225s on the back should be awsome. split the rims using an angle grinder clamped into a specialy made Vambo patented rimming machine!!! here it is: The rim is rested on the steel plate, pushed against a cutting disc and rotated by hand. heres another pic of the wheel two evenings work, not including a bit of time to strip some paint off with paint stripper I used the bed of a milling machine and a height gauge to level them out, alot of carefull measuring and tacking! this is what they will be going on: Wadda ya reckon folks, dragy look or stretchy-ish rims? PS only made the back wheels so far.

I'd go for 205/60s myself. 225/40 is very low profile I doubt you'd get it low enough to make them work.

that volvo is nice, norther norway/ rural sweden "sand road" or forest road style with the lowness and roofrack etc, as they just tend to drag them out of wherever they fine them, sometimes paint them, lower, weld diff and drive.
Wnet through a good few of them and 940s over the last couple of years, some are still going, most not though, mostly my fault but i plan to make up for it by doing a nice one. I reckon if you don't want to do lots of sideways then fat tyres for a change or keep 2 spare rims of for the back, as big fat sticky rear tyres won't be as fun as crappy overinflated narrow ones.

225/40s were small on the 106 (and took a lot of lows to get them near the arches), they would be seriously lost on the volvo!

Look for yank wheels with white lettering; cooper cobras, bfg's, general, good year etc. I think they would suit the car great.

I reckon this thread is what RR is all about! Stlye found where others rarely look; home-made ingenuity; genuine enthusiasm. Top stuff Vambo!! Really apreciate the compliment, thanks Now i am in a total state of confusion! I offered the wheels up to the car this morning, and I'm thinking i have gone a bit to wide! they are touching the calipers and are very close to the inner tubs. If i fit the 225s I'm sure as all have said they will be a bit to small a diameter, and TBH the car is low enough as it is (its a daily driver). The 205s will match the dia of the original tyres so would suit best, however, i am not keen to stretch them onto these rims (8.5" width) I'm thinking about making a set of 4 bandeds that are 7" wide, and going outwards only, ie the band on the outside of the rim and fitting 205s, or...... finding a set of 15" dia rims and banding those, as then i have a way better choice of tyres!! oooooh the dilemas!!!

I reckon you've got the width about right to be honest, they are just a little bit too inset. A bit more offset and you'd have nailed it.
I'd have thought that a 205 section tyre wouldn't be too stretched on a 8.5" rim, 205mm is just over 8 inches anyway.

Spacers? you definately don't need narrower rims, banded steels on the balc of something that big need to be 8s at least really, they just need to either have most of the band facing out, or have spacers with those ones to push them out a bit
