Wide tyres for 14" rims????sowen

Now I am in a total state of confusion! I offered the wheels up to the car this morning, and I'm thinking I have gone a bit to wide! they are touching the calipers and are very close to the inner tubs. If I fit the 225s I'm sure as all have said they will be a bit to small a diameter, and TBH the car is low enough as it is (its a daily driver). The 205s will match the dia of the original tyres so would suit best, however, I am not keen to stretch them onto these rims (8.5" width) I'm thinking about making a set of 4 bandeds that are 7" wide, and going outwards only, ie the band on the outside of the rim and fitting 205s, or...... finding a set of 15" dia rims and banding those, as then I have a way better choice of tyres!! oooooh the dilemas!!! I think 205's fit quite square on a 7" rim. You could try Northants TyresIf you're prepared to go a smidge bigger on the rolling diameter you can get american sized tyres to fit 14" rims. Looking at they're website the aspect ratio remains 60, and the width just gets bigger (and diameter) There maybe other more competitive prices out there

Okies, had a think aboot it over the weekend, the 205s are a good price, and should give better tail end fun than the 225s so I'm thinking of going for them on....... 7" rims, and just banding outwards (wonder what this will do handling-wise what with a different offset n all)
so, back to the rimming machine for some red hot rim action! wooooo!
totally love that P6 sowen!

At least you've had some practice on the wheels now I was going to do what you're trying to do, but in the end the lack of selection of 14" tyres of the right diameter, I gave up and went up to 15" and now have 225/50/15 on the rear on 8" rims. Definately post up more pics of how you banded them and when fitted to the car, they look fantastic

I don't have any 15s so I'm thinking of just doing the 14s and when I do buy a 760 start again! eeeeeeeh its all good fun init! I love these old volvos, I like the idea of what Conrad said about the scene in Norway/Sweden just findin un wanted ones, slaming them and just driving and using and abusing, its exactly what this car has been used for so far, I don't really intend on doing anything else to it now other than the rims and lace painting the bonnet candy orange! will stick some pics up of next rimmage, be on with it tomro nite!

Wish i still had the videos of one of my old ones, lots of road based sideways abuse, but it was on a hard drive that was in my p100 when that got stolen. We'd made a little movie of drifting exploits with that 740 and another guy's 535i . Exactly as you said that, found lying up in a field, springs cut, diff welded, a few cooling mods and a skid pan for the diff and under the engine. went through quite a few other old volvos too but never got any footage of them. wasnt so internet friendly then, i've only got into forums in the last couple years

I looked for ages for a set of alternative wheels but there was nothing I fancied, in the end just by chance I stumbled across a set of four 7x15's and two 8x15's in the correct pcd. It also meant I could upgrade the front brakes with the extra clearance I also have another two sets of 15x6 steels to play with when I finish all the current projects ;D What has your volvo currently got, 185's?

I'm am getting a knocking noise from the back that i haven't investigated yet, but when something breaks i will know what to fix!! shame about ur vids gettin knicked!

But if you're willing to put up with that then it's fun. 100% predicatable how it's going to step put every time as it's constant 100%lock not like a normal road spec lsd (which are usually only aboyt 25-30%anyway arent they?)

should also add that the scuffing and skipping etc will attract attention, but then again it'll already be doing that what with being a rather low, black and massive old volvo

Hmmmm will ponder the welded diff, just come home in the wet and its tail-slidey, but only if you are really spanking it, so it becomes a bit unpredictable, be nice to have totall control!! Teflon, you got a mail coming your way! do you have a set of 205s or 215s? made another one tonight, this is haow i am set on doing all 4, so 3 more to do! the band is now only on the outside so i didn't have to cut the centre out and re-weld, they are now exactly 7.5" wide, wooooooohh!

^^ nice. i really do like those volvo steels. There's opel/vauxhall ones that i also loved and had two banded ones on the rear of my rekord, they're a bit "steel slotmag"-like too, as you said about these. And for the diff, get a spare one, weld the one you have and if you decide you can't live with it then put the standard one back in. I hope you'll make sure the cooling system' in order on that, as it'll save you a lot of grief. It's make sense to renew anything cooling related you can renew and an extr electric fan, running constantly would be good if you plan prolonged sidways abuse

205 tyre 11j rim Wohhhh, mega stretch! The first one I did kept the same offset as the original rim, cut the center out and the whole thing came to 8.5" the second one is just dished outwards, and is 7.5" I'm making one more tomorrow, and these will go on the front with 195/60/r14 tyres I'm well chuffed coz I found some 195s and some 205s fo £6 quid a corner in a scrappers!! the rears are going to be 8.5" with the 205s, I will cut the centre out, and match the outwards dish to the fronts, or maybe a slight bit more! here have some pics of the front one completed and on the car, I'm popper buzzin!! its a good fit archwise! more pics when I get the others done
