Love the supra, they arn't the quickest car but they have more going for them than they are given credit for. I have rallied them, hillclimbed, navigation rallied and autotested them over the years and probably will again. Good luck with the project. Here is a link to pics and video of some of mine.
In all cases, IVA (whether Basic or Normal) is only required for passenger cars and light goods vehicles less than 10 years old, which require first licensing and registration in the United Kingdom.
Love the car mate! thanks for posting i love a nice MA61!
Nice to see you enjoying competing in teh car, fancy joining us for a sprint in october? we'd love to have you along for round 6 of the Toyota Sprint Series
I am really rather surprised by the love for the ald MA61. Thanks Everyone!
Corolaestate your vids of shuffling that silver Supra about has impressed me a great deal and rallying one is a WIN of epic proportions.
st182, thanks for the invitation, I think a little Toyota on Toyota action would be right up the Ald Supras street, but as I'm about to explain the supra is not currently in working order. I have read the info and would love to get involved next year when the supra is up and running again.
As for the status of my Supra... well it is just the tiniest bit asthmatic. If I'm honest with my self the 2.8 lump is not really bestowed with the balls that this car deserves. It some how promises rather more performance than it actually delivers... So there is a plan emerging that may solve this little problem.
The joyous thing about the Supra family line is that Toyota really didn't change all that much right up until the mk4. On top of that Toyota threw the straight 6 in everything that would accept it. This means that there is a huge amount of rusting lexi hiding juicy 2jz 24 valve 220 hp engines... you can't move around Lancashire for dark red Lexus gs300s.
The plan then is to junk the 2.8 and throw in a much later non-vvt 3.0l lump and a mk4 supra manual box which apparently has so much to do with the MA61 box that it pretty much falls in. Once this is running then I will open things up with a set of BMW E36 M3 throttle bodies and some kind of engine management (need help on this front as I can't find reasonable programmable ECU's to run a 6 banger).
I will take some pics as the engine is hanging out the front of it as I write this!!
The inspiration for the supra came from a sketch I did about 2 years back as I imagined what a supra would look like if Toyota planned to race the thing at Le Mans.
i think that the Supra MKIV N/A 5 speed is a W58, which is the same box as bolted to the 2.8. The TT 5 speed is a R154 (same as a MKIII Turbo) or a V160 if it's a 6 speed.
I really, REALLY like this Celica-Supra and the plans sound brilliant too!
The Supra looks great, the wheels are particularly ace. And I think I know the owner of that green Escort, if it's owned by a curly haired yorkshireman...
You do know the esteemed gentleman, Mike... The curly haired chap has forced me into this engine swap by beating the supra in his charged up 'scort.
Cheers Doc for the Gearbox info... now the trick is to get hold of one for less than the cost of a good manual MA61. By the way, I do like the your 80's supra avatar jobby!!!
Excellent stuff, good luck with the transplant, can't have the Bland-mobile beating you! Have to say, this Supra looks a damn site better than the one we helped you collect off that steep drive in Coventry a few years back...
awesome sounds like the perfect recipe! infact i'm dribbling myself..........
theres a guy over in morecambe who has a 7MGTE turbo powered one, although from a mk3 he may be able to give some tips.
PS its an open invitation for the TSS mate, we welcome drivers who just want to do one event not just championship entrants, PM me if your ever interested and can't find answers on the website, even if you fancy just coming over for a watch
