Yup, the final scene does indeed use a Camaro (think it's a '67) instead of a (then brand new) Challenger. The 67 Camaro was engineless and was towed up to speed for the final crash by one of the 5 Challengers used in the filming (four were 440R/T's and the one that did the towing was a 383 auto).

'Cannonball'? Is this not that masterpiece of 70s American cinema, 'Smashup on Interstate 5'...? Never heard of Smashup and I don't know Cannonball well enough to say either way :/ You could well be right.

1983, Christine. Wreckage of many 1958 Plymouth Fury cars, but this video contains the two scenes that always made me cringe; The guys smashing up the Plymouth and Arnie finding her.

Yep, bonnet opens up the wrong way as it goes down the cliff and the lambo was a wrecked rolling chassis with no engine ect in it. The soft top E type was def repaired (I think they both where) and the Aston was put back on the road as well I'm pretty sure on that too. I'm certain the CRY Jag was rebuilt. The Minis though - they died. 848 CRY is alive, well and doing the show circuit. The Aston is also alive as is the other E Type, but the owners keep their location quiet. The Mini's didn't die, they got sold on. The ones chucked over the cliffs were standard 850 Minis. If you look, they all have single fuel tanks for a start. The Coopers were put back on their original plates, so pretty much any of us who have owned a Cooper S could have unknowingly owned one of the film cars. I don't believe there's any documents or footage of the original registrations, so they would be near impossible to track down. Saddest thing for me was the Harrington Legionnaire which lived up in Scotland as a school bus before being scrapped in 1993. That really needed saving.

I don't believe there's any documents or footage of the original registrations, so they would be near impossible to track down. This does sometimes happen.... a friend of mine in the US is a bit of a Herbie collector; he’s got one of the stunt cars from an older film and one day he went to see a white 1965 Beetle. It had some peculiar features that weren’t quite right for a ’65 but were right for a 1963 Beetle. There were alarm bells ringing as he looked over the car, grey paint inside (the old film cars were painted grey inside), some screw holes in the roof where a fake cloth sunroof was screwed on and a few others. He bought the car for the full asking price. Got it home, started stripping it and found the owners registration document under the rear seat, it was owned by Disney in the early 1970s and used as a stunt car in Herbie Rides Again. The guy he bought it off was selling because he wanted to make a Herbie replica, when he actually had the real thing!

Registrations for the three minis came up on ebay a couple of years ago as a job lot.

How many excellent cars have been smashed up in Bond films ? Examples - DB5, various Mercs and a crushed Lincoln in Goldfinger. DB9s in the Daniel Craig films etc. etc. etc. ![](http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd36/chevazon/car_photo_213493_251.jpg)

At least 1 Mustang from Bullitt and 1 Dodge Charger.
1 Mustang survives, I don't think any of the Chargers do.
Countless cars from the Mad Max films got destroyed. The remains from one of the F-series Ford trucks/pickups from Mad Max 2 sat beside a fence in Silvertown/Silverton (can't remember the correct spelling) NSW, Australia for years until film buffs hunters started stripping it, I think it has a fence around it now.

^ was that not a test hack from aston that was gonna get crushed anyway? IIRC they were built for the film (probably out of text/pre-production cars). They had no interior, on hell of a roll cage and as far as I remember, Chevrolet V8 engines. I could be wrong though. Also, note how the cage has been removed for the 'Evo' Aston! Chris *EDIT* This is from the Evo feature... Fortunately Aston had a trio of redundant DB9 development hacks and drafted them into the prototype shop to be turned into DBS replicas. From the outside these sacrificial lambs looked identical to the fully formed ‘hero’ cars already working their stuff for the cameras. Inside, they were rather less polished, with tatty, rough-grained dashboards and stout roll-cages betraying their origins as pre-production workhorses. The tired matt-black vents and buttons on the top half of the dash were pretty far from the chrome-splashed versions in the show cars but, to avoid any risk of knackering continuity, the team came up with a cunning fix involving careful application of kitchen tin-foil.It's here if you want to have a read.
