Just got thinking about these (and did a thread elsewhere so sorry for duplication for those who see it). Testing the RR beliefs; any poential? and anyone brave enough to do it? A long time since i been in one of these and always been quite fond of em. But then i never owned one of me own! The much loved Mini's bigger dorky uncle. Years ago i fancied a Streetmachine stylee one in 90's bright pink with polorised widows, my ideas are still as daft! Pulling power

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I remember seeing Maxis all over the place as a kid! I'm not usually a fan of British tin, particularly these "Landcrab" things, but there's definitely potential! 820 Turdblower lump?! Dunno about styling - I don't think they're the prettiest of cars... not sure what could be done to change that really!

I remember (with great amusement) a friend of my parents who owned a Maxi that had a large oil drum in the place of the passenger seat that acted as a fuel tank. It also had a bonnet that would pop up if you dared venture over 50mph. Hearing aid beige ... it lasted forever. ;D This (for some reason) is how I always remember seeing Maxi's as a young lad ... ... towing bloody caravans. ;D Still, I do look on them fondly. A chunk of British motoring history, and my childhood ! On a sidenote, does anyone else remember the Aquila ?

this is exactly the same as mine was, apart from the caravan, who needed one anyway, the seats all folded down flat to make a very comfy double bed, and no it wasnt impossible to pull in a cheese colouered maxi in the early nineties ;D ;D ;D

My dad had several. One we bought had a gearbox full of sawdust - oops. One my dad raced along Pendine sands and then (rather stupidly) applied the brakes at top speed to see what would happen approximately half a second before working out that what would happen was that the nose would dig into the sand in fine style. We were winched out! The last one was a minter until on the day it was to be viewed by a potential buyer some little sod (me) spent 5 minutes in the car heating up the cigarette lighter and applying it all along the top of the dash to make a pretty pattern. I can still hear the swear words!! A mate of mine still swears by them. Sticking the gearbox from a 1300 into a 1750 makes something that accelerates like a scalded cat but won't go over 50 mph!
Joyous car.

Parents had one for a number of years back in the 80's, my dad, being the sensible type, bought one 'cos they're good for towing' - in his case a huge caravan. My mother once did a complete 360 when she lost it whie it was snowing. I was about 9 at the time and remember jumping up and down in the back yelling 'do it again'. She was taking me to the ice rink at the time ooooh the irony. I've always loved them. The big-Mini thing has always appealed They MUST have SOME potential... What sort of modern lump would fit under the bonnet nicely Theres a chance the 1750 engine shares the same gearbox stud pattern as the later O-series, and cheap MG Montego turbo engines are still out there - or O series derived T16's and M16's are also in adequate supply at low prices.
