Hydragas is so called because the displacers contain gas and a liquid. It's the combination that provides the springing/damping. I started this thread and was prepared to keep an open mind, but the light mods just look awful. Lowered yet looking relatively standard would be win. What sort of money would you be after to sell it though? It's really clean and very rare, as has been said. I like the lights myself so will it as it is for now thanks, and if I start disliking them isn't hard to take off. Would probs want like £8-900 there is a bit of rust on the offside front panel but we were given 2 front panels and the panel along the front of the car, so they would be involved to

I'll pass at that price. As Trigger's posted - meddling with Metros can end in very, very COOL ways.

I love metros, and this looks like a good start. Can't say I agree with the "tights on lights" situation, just because it seems like a sign of impending terribly executed modifications more than anything. I realise it's "your car, your way" but please, please don't bodge this thing until it's a worthless pile of matt black paint and stickers! You've got a great base car that really benefits from a bit of colour in the lights. You'll never get a "moody tinted lights look" on a red metro - sort the wheels, sort the stance and embrace the orange lights and you'll be onto a massive winner

the black tint is tacky and horrible
apart from that the car is gorgous
it will be worth more in the long run if kept original but meh its your choice if you want to spoil it i guess!

Can't decide how low to go hmmmm As low as possible? It's always the best way. I'd just go for a red tint on the rear lights though. I don't get why people have a problem with others modding mint/low mileage stuff. Base spec 80s hatches are wibblepoo standard. I don't agree on reversible mods either. It's never gonna be worth anything. NOBODY will hark back to their youth in 15 years and think "I really want another 998cc Metro" so they'll not get a scene tax like stuff that was actually fun to drive does. Matt

I'm dropping my metro van by about 30mm, so that it will still go over speed bumps and not break my spine. Another worth while and reversible mod is to individualise the rear hyrdro gas cans while you have them of.
Also all MK 1 metros have front shocker re-enforcement plates on the inner wings etc, so you can fit shockers.
As others have said, tidy MK 1 metros are very rare these days, don't ruin it...

Love it, I'm very jealous! Seen it in the flesh and looks pretty nice. tights on lights, why not? cheap and easily reversible. Like it a lot. Keep it up...looking forward to it.
If you don't like it, don't look!

Looking good! How was it lowered? Letting the gas out, or shortening the rods? Oh, can I suggest www.flyeyeskit.co.uk/ if you MUST keep the lights tinted. It's like tights, but sticky (eew) and vinyl (eeew)

not keen on the tights but slam it ftw ;D Good start but needs to go lower and why not go for 13's instead of 12's? cheaper tyres ftw.

that looks brill mate, i think although tacky the tights on lights (lol) is quite a clever way of doing tinting cheap - if anything it tells you what it would look like if you were to spend more on an actual tinting kit and if you didnt like it then you havent wasted loads of money
+1 for more lowering!

On hydragas that's had the fluid let out, that's quite low enough. Any lower and it needs doing properly - shorter rods and higher fluid pressure. I had a biege X-reg HLE back in the day and it was too low but I didn't have the means to do it properly.
Oh and another thing - get some rustproofing on it, wheelarch lips especially - these manage to do the rusty-rat-look thing all by themselves. On a Metro it just looks rusty, not cool.
It's a nice wee car, do stuff to it, but do it properly please.

It has been done properly. The gas was let out by someone who knew what they were doing in a garage with the proper equipment.

I wanna go lower just worried coz as said it messes up the handling and will ride like utter curse word, I think 13s will be to big and rub plus 12s mean more lows if put low profile tires on it ;D And will do the rustproofing don't want another rat car, done one of those already
