Last Friday Egbert and I had a brief stint off road, albeit accidentaly but I have to admit Rapids aren't really my car of choice for ploughing into hedges!!
Rarity and just the fact that the hedge wasn't my intended destination made it quite a bad car choice in fact.
So now a slightly bruised 136 is coming your way folks!
Though seriously, it wasn't that bad. I skidded on a wet road coming out of a corner and it whipped across and a skimmed down a hedge, my first thought was 'curse word where are my glasses I need to see what've I've done to the car!'
Loads of people stopped to help though they did say if I'd been a guy they wouldn't have so good luck boys!
We towed/I drove it back onto the road as it was down a slight embankment and the guy said to drive it home, I moved it about 5 feet and noticed the wheels were all wobbly and being wrenched over the kurb had done something to the steering.
We limped it into the mans garden (he offered!) and then snook back at night and limped it home. when I say limped I mean we followed in a Fiesta with hazards on while dad 'drove' the Rapid back in front at 20mph swaying all over the road like it was drunk. he nearly ended up in several hedges before we got it home.
On Sunday Dad had chance to have good look at the damaged, popped a dent out by hand and straightened out the steering but that is yet to be tested completely.
The main damage is to the n/s rear wing which had been flattened in, the front wing was dented but that popped out and the front lower panel was folded under but similarly has been put straight.
The indicators both broke, bonnet pins were flung off and one fog was broken. The screen unfortunately was hit and has cracked on the n/s though Dad says this is legal to drive with just won't MOT.
Aside from that Egbert is okay really, due to the wing and potential damage to the steering we looked for a new car for me and I found a maroon Mini Mayfair I had stalked around and luckily it was for sale so that's a new addition and will be attending RCS hopefully.
I wish we could keep the Rapid but Dad hasn't much time to fix it and it would just mean the Clubby got put off for even longer(full custom resto).
So Egbert is for sale, Dad will try and press as much of the rear wing back out as possible and will take another look at the steering etc when he gets chance and we'll rub down and prime the areas where the paint has come away to stop rust.
He is still MOTd until August, I have him on SORN as poor impoverish student me needs the tax back. He also has a spare d/s wing as if you're doing panels you may as well eradicate the bit of rust on that wing.
Not that I need to say it but I do not want him to end up a trike!!
