Hope Mr B doesn't mind me butting in, but I think his 929 model (and its RX4 sister) ran up to about 1976/77 or so. After that they actually had two different coupe models, a 2dr notchback and 3dr fastback. Both were sold in Europe as 121, not 929, and you could also get Cosmo rotary versions in Japan.
After that came the weird model with pop-up lights that he's found on French eBay.

Ace pictures! Apart from the 121 coupes and later non-estate 929s all those models (even R100) were sold in UK, but I bet you couldn't get a line-up like that here. The blue 818 coupe in particular is very nice.

The engines in em are a bit turd TBH. An MX-5 engine and box would work wonders. Would they be torquey enough? I believe I had similar engine in a 323F GT, it was 1.8 and nearly 140bhp and suited that car well but I think you'd want something a bit lazier in 929. Wonder what those small-capacity Mazda V6 lumps are like? Had them in MX3, possibly Xedos too? What about diesel from B2200

What about sticking in an MX5 engine and drivetrain along with one of those MX5 turbo conversions you can get in Japan? Didn't they have a feature on doing that in PPC magazine ages ago? I seem to remember it wasn't a terribly hard job according to them, and they reckoned it made quite a difference to the performance. That might give you the added power and torque you'd need, particularly if you went with a later 1800cc MX5 engine. (The new MX5 has a 2 litre option but I imagine it'd be hard to find one of those at a good price.) Or there's the slightly predictable turbo'd rotary option.

Really? I was under the impression it was a development of the original MX5 twincam, sorry there. Bit disappointed that they've gone over the Ford power for the MX actually, although I wouldn't mind seeing the shared engineering going the other way and Ford and Volvo using rotaries, and a T5 MX5 would be pretty cool too, not sure what you'd call it though, the MXT5? ;D Not so unlikely either seeing as the T5 was going to be used in the cancelled mkII Focus RS.

I think you're right actually, the ST uses the T5 engine, whearas the RS was going to use the T6, which is essentially a 280bhp turbocharged variant of the straight six used in 960s like mine. My mistake.
