If you are prepared to pay the right money (although they're not that pricey by KK standards) then try looking here: www.vw-online.co.uk/acatalog/kkcat1.html I'm not sure whether there'd be width issues though, as they're designed for specific vehicles. Otherwise watch ebay and try to find the ones no-one else sees. Or ask any 'old' people if they have one, they've usually got one hanging in the garage.

The one on the pooloo is off my bug,its an old 1950s PORTARACK universal one, still had to be modded to fit though. I've got a spare Desmo alloy rack in my shed which should fit any car with guttering, needs polishing and wood fitting.but its cheap!

Those fibreglass roof boxes used by VW Sharan drivers are easily available from Halfords, why not get one of those? Much more secure.

And more aerodynamic...
I've chucked a few of these old roof racks away over the years. Guess anything can start becoming desirable again. Problem is (appart from being ugly) they make a weird noise at speed.

Or ask any 'old' people if they have one, they've usually got one hanging in the garage. Oh no, I must be old then Inherited with ex-old people's Datsuns I've got a couple of 80's roof racks plus a pair of ladder bars. The latter I fitted once on the Skyline as I needed to get a fence panel and posts home, but the racks will never, ever be fitted as I class these as fashion. Perhaps I'll put them up for sale soon when I have a big garage clear-out if they're worth something. Likely that I'll unearth some old spotlights/foglamps too.

but the racks will never, ever be fitted as I class these as fashion. Odd statement... *n Maybe badly worded. Does a roof rack actually make a car look better? IMO no, because I generally favour modifications that enhance the car's original lines or have some kind of historical provenance. As I see it, like many things roof racks are fitted to make your car fit into a certain scene, not necessarily because they're attractive or functional, which I believe equates to fashion. And while I'm happy to take on new ideas etc as they come along, I don't really 'do' fashion.

Ahhh...But by virtue of being a consumer, you do 'do' fashion. Is that true? My brown jumper from Marks and Spencer was bought with practicality in mind above all else, i bought it without any interest to who else might be buying one, so I thought I had escaped any fashion connotation there.

It is a designed item that appeals to a group of people; ergo it is 'fashion'. Furthermore, any item of clothing falls under 'fashion'. *n

I'm not a blind follower of fashion clothing wise, but I try not to look a pleb and don't go out of my way to find non-fashion items.
Car-wise, I will be running a 'rack at at least one show this year, but I quite like the look...especially as it's non-permanent.
