one of the few cars that look better mostly standard than modified i think, makes them look a bit rubbish when you start mucking about with the bodywork, wheels, drop, more powaaaa is all you need.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

I had one recently absolutely fantstic if a bit thirsty. Mine was an auto too unfortunately. If I got one again it'd be a manual and the first thing Id do would be sort the head gasket - saves the paranoia, nothing wrong with mine but I was still paranoid, boot it and then think OH GOD, WHAT ABOUT THE HEAD GASKET!!! It was so bloody quick and sounded gorgeous with a full stainless system - 10mpg on one of the tanks took the absolute curse word though, should have reined in that go pedal a but but the boost was so addictive

I'm a fan too, when wanting something more sensible after my old GT4, I very nearly bought a turbo auto. But it was red and faded like the GT4 and couldn't find a Black or dark grey one at the time.

I bought mine from Daveboy, absolute blast! Never before has beemer baiting been so much fun! The auto is the best, there actually faster once moving than the manual!
Used to just sit in the right lane waiting for a prick in a 3 series to come up my rear flashing how they do, then boot it, the auto box would drop and i'd be gone, easing off only when you glance down and noticing 140-150 on the clock!
Would i have another? Yes! Would i constantly be scared the HG is gonna blow? Yes! Would my wallet like it? Nope!
10mpg is easily achievable, i drove like a granny and got about 19 once though...

From what I've read the head gasket problems existed due to a typo in the workshop manual, which lead to an incorrect torque setting being used to tighten the head bolts. IIRC they revised the settings and ones with the correct torque are pretty invincible.
Although in Japan they also did a twin turbo straight 6 2.0 GA engine and a twin turbo straight 6 2.5 1JZ engine too. Which didn't suffer from the same problem as the 3.0 single turbo engine. Only problem I see with them is the weight which seems crazy for a car of it's size and the thirst!

Didn't someone on here recently call them a 'Japanese Night Rider' or something? I like 'em lots. Fond memories of getting my hands on one as soon as possible in Gran Tourismo 2 career mode!

I don't think it was a typo, Toyota didn't torque them properly, but didn't feel the need to recall them! I think your only at less risk of HG failure if you go metal gaskets, but these still fail! Its just not a good lump for HG's... Think the Rover of the J woprld...

great looking motors IMO. 'Think I prefer the mk2s (Celica Supras) a little bit more though.

I read a feature in Banzai or some J Magazine of 1980's Soarer with the same 3 litre Straight six as these with 500+hp. Apparently better head bolts torqued down properly makes them bulletproof.
